987 - 997 passenger airbag can only disabled ( without fault codes ) with the optional lock/key system. It is possible to install this system, but not cheap.

Hi, does any one know how to disable the passenger airbag when not using Porsche child seat on a 2000 Boxster 2.7 tipS?

Thanks, Timbo UK member

You will need a airbag deactivation bar. Porsche does not sell them separately from the Porsche child seat. At last check these ran around $650. I was able to find a just the bar on ebay for around $60, but I have seen them go anywhere from $50 to $250.

Good Luck!

Airbag deactivation bar is for 986 - 996.

The car listed in this post is a 2000, so that would be a 986.

Timbo,

It is a bar that is installed under the passenger seat when a Porsche baby seat is installed it has a seatbelt-like connection that deactivates the airbags. Here is a link with an example of one installed.

I purchased the de-activation bar from Suncoast. Physically a simple install, two bolts and a plug. Has anyone done this themselves, or is a reprogram required? Thanks!

Yes, if the bar activation is not "on" it will need to be turned on.

If that is the case then you need to find someone with a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

Hi All,

I have just had the deactivation bar and receptor installed in my Boxster S.... I was told it would work with any child seat. I can secure any child seat using the 3-point belt, but that still doesn't give me anything to plug into the deactivator receptor....am I missing something? I think I was misinformed by the dealer, who said the kit can be used with any car seat...

You have to plug the two wire connector into a plug on the bottom of the seat (usually taped) AND the feature needs to be turned on with a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

Looking at purchasing a Porsche Plus child/booster seat (not from dealer) for my 6yr old son.

Can I use a non Porsche booster seat if I have the deactivation bar installed? If so how do you get it to work if the deactivation bar has a buckle attachment? Thanks.

You'll need the male portion of the buckle, that is attached to the Porsche child seat, plugged into onto the female portion of the buckle that is part of the deactivation bar.

The deactivation bar is installed under the passenger seat, and the cars computer settings are modified with a Porsche System Tester (PST2 or PIWIS) usually at the dealer, to acknowledge the bar and to turn off the passenger side air bags when the above mentioned buckles are connected.

Once the bar is installed and "activated" you can use any child seat provided you can get a hold of the male portion of the buckle or replicate it by modifying a used seat buckle or fabricating one with patterns available on the net.
