996-NEWBIE: PCM PROBLEM....PLEASE HEEELP...!

Recommended Posts

Hi...!

I have just bought my first 911 (996 targa - '02 - PCM with BOSE) - what a car...! :)

I am having serious problems with my PCM-module as the display has gone completely dark....! :( Navigation and radio was working at the time, but I decided to drive to my nearest Porsche Center to get some advice. They took a brief look on the PCM module, and used their diagnostic-kit to make sure that all PCM-buttons were working properly including the DARK-button - this was the case.

.....then they made a big mistake by disconnecting the battery of the car - thereby the car lost is code.....!!

We managed to enter the code "in the dark", but I can’t seem to get the car to store the code? Also I am only able to listen to the same radio-channel and I can’t switch to CD player - it seems like only volume button is working, and emergency call to 911??!! The car has Porsche Approved warranty, but the PCM module is not covered by the warranty :( A new module will cost me over 2K....! Does anybody in here know anything about this PCM-problem?

As this happened on the first day I bought the car I am not familiar with the PCM module and its functions, sorry....!

I do hope someone can help?! :renntech:

Regards from Denmark...!

I am having similar problems and am looking or a good repair shop here in the US for a PCM 1 unit. It was manufactured by Siemens and they are very proprietary about the unit, apparently. Found this place in the UK. You might want to try them.

They appear to have the expertise to help you.

If you have lost your PCM (1 or 2) code then the only place you can have looked up is at a Porsche dealer/OPC.

Please do a search here as blank displays can be caused by several things - including the system needs a reset, a blown fuse (there are more than one), as well as a PCM control unit failure.

Also, please be specific as PCM1 is quite different from PCM2.x

Please DO NOT double and triple post the same issue. I already answered your question in another thread.

Hi...!

My PCM is now working - but sadly they just changed the entire PCM-module at my local Porsche-dealer :(

I know by reading some other posts on Renntech, that there are some fuses on the back of the PCM-module that can get non-functional - I will recommend you to do a search for these posts....

... but maybe the easiest will be to drive down to you local Porsche-dealer and explain him the problem.... I did the same, and they spent almost 1 hour trying to figure out the problem, and I didn’t cost me a $...! The problem could be that one of your buttons simply doesn’t work - by letting the Porsche-guys use their diagnostics-system, they may find the problem (this system can check if all buttons on your PCM are properly working)

Regards,

Mads
