Starter Location On 2000 Box S

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the exact location of the starter? Does the engine need to be dropped in the the maintenance position to have access to to it or can you get to it by removing the top panel over engine and under the softtop (when opened)? Thanks.

I do not have a good picture of it since it is hidden by the throttle body and I have never removed one.

It is on top and you can replace it once you removed the engine lid. The shop manual says to have to swing the throttle body out of the way to get to the 2 bolts for the starter.

This shows the drive end of the starter just to show you the location.

I am on a dial up with 30 minutes of better things to do after I looked at the home page.

I have been Boxstering for almost 5 years. I know of no way to "hot wire" a Boxster or 996 or any current Porsche model. It is not going anywhere without the proper key unless it is towed.

Save your money - there is no need for this product on a Boxster. I like their claim of a 100% guarantee against hot wiring. Give me the money and I will give you a 100% guarantee against hot wiring a Boxster.

Thanks for the insight.

I'd love nothing more than to believe that the OEM security system from Porsche is impervious, but I live in New York City and it's next door to the stolen car capital of the world New Jersey. Unless Porsche AG is going to give me a handwritten guarantee that it's impossible to hotwire a Boxster, the $360 for the PowerLock will give me the piece of mind that I need to keep from sleeping in the car 24/7. Take a look at my car in the Garage and I think you'll get a better idea of why alittle overkill might be the right level of security. Thanks again for you help.
