Clear Side Markers

Clear Side Markers

I just installed the clear side marker's on my father's Cayenne that I ordered from Gert. It's a lot simpler than I'd heard. First off, his truck has the 20" wheels and I did not need to remove the wheels. Here's a simple "how to:" 1. Turn the steering wheel completely so that one wheel is facing in. 2. Remove the 4 torx screws below the light and 1 torx screw above the light (size 20). 3. Pull back the wheel well lining and hold out with one hand. 4. Remove 1 torx screw holding in

One comment about steps #4 and #9. There are actually two torx screws holding in the light. (They are T27 on my Cayenne TT by the way.) After you remove the easily accessible bottom torx screw you stilll have one mounting screw at the top. The top one is above the light box that sticks out of the wheel well. If you can't find it, reference your yet-to-be-installed clear light unit. Feel around with your finger and torx driver until you engage the screw and then remove it. The trick is that it is impossible to get this screw back into the hole with the light unit in place. Instead, start the top torx screw BEFORE you put the light unit into the car. But only turn it a couple of times, leaving lots of space behind the head of the screw. Then carefully twist and wiggle your new light unit into place so the top mount slips behind the head of the screw. Then tighten the top screw, followed by reinserting and tightening the bottom screw.

I followed the procedure and it was great, Thanks so much, the look is really sweet, pictures do not do the change justice. If you have a Cayenne and have not done this yet, you owe it to yourself to do it. Thanks Again ESK!!

Thank you all for posting such helpful instructions. I don't know where I'd have begun.

For all who say the second light goes faster than the first, I'ld like to know which side (passenger or driver) did you start on, and are you right handed of left handed?

I can add only two suggestions the instructions above.

1. Buy new bulbs before changing the lenses. As I was tightening the last screw, I came to the sickening realization that this is a same procedure for replacing a burnt out bulb.

2. It really helps to have a flexible torx screwdriver for that top screw on the lens. Fortunately, I already had one.

Unfortunately I did it last year before these instructions were out and it was a pain compared the 911 which took all of 5 minutes for both sides. Yes, there are TWO screws on each one and one is real PITA. Taking out the headlights may also give you more access FWIW. And it is worth it, especially on our black S.

did it on our '04 turbo last night but for some reason, the fender liners didn't really want to come loose. It took probably 30 minutes per side. Not super difficult, but I know with the vents for the intercoolers at the bottom of the fender liners, the liner didn't want to give as much as I needed it to in order to get access to the top screw to mount the light.

And yes, definitely a MUST DO on a black Cayenne.

Now if I could find some nice smoked taillights as well.

Great instructions. the first timethrough I did not know about the top torx screw (#25). Spend $6 and get a little flexible extender to get at the top screw. Then it really is a snap. Otherwise, you're in for some serious frustration.

Thanks to the previous posters!! Those instructions made my mod go (relatively) easy and painless. A couple of small suggestions: 1) use a magnetic torx tip on your flexible extension, and 2) have a helper handy to hold/keep the wheelhouse liner out of your way so you can use both hands to work on that fun upper mount screw.

Picked up a set of clear marker lights from bumperplugs. On the old lenses, the bulb would install near center, on the new one, they now install to the rear of the lens. Is there a reason for the, ie: hide the orange bulb? Or should i drill out the center hole and fill the other?

Hi, youngcr.

I drilled out the front hole as you mentioned.

It looks much better than highlighting the wheel hood.

Someone recommended new amber bulbs for clear marker but I use factory original bulbs and they still look nice.

Not sure whether the reason of different opinion is the newly designed slender side marker of my 08 CS.

James.

does the instructions work with the new cayenne 2008?

Yes, the instructions work for the 2008. Wasn't too painful except for the top torx screw. Not sure where the screws are for the earlier Cayenne marker screw, but there's a metal bracket in the way giving only about three inches to work with. A set of Craftsman offset wrenches with the torx bit did the trick. Thanks for teh instructions!

Does the light assembly have to be removed to JUST replace a bulb? I'm in Billings MT with one side marker out, and I suspect the nearest dealer is about 500 miles away. I have the bulbs and torx drivers..

Can you reach the socket with the fender liner pulled back?

I'll answer my own question..

On a '03 to I think at least '08 - the bulb can be replaced without removing the housing. Remove the screw above and the screw below the housing in the fender well. Pull the liner out enough to get your hand in behind it. Feel around for the wire leading to the housing. Follow it to the housing. Pull the rubber socket off the tubular tit that it is pushed onto. Pull it out between the liner and the bumper.. the wire is long enough. Replace bulb. Reassembly is the reverse.

Total time, including futzing - about 10 minutes. If I had to do it again, it would be less then 5 minutes.
