Door carpet replacement with leather

Recommended Posts

I just replaced the door carpet(bottom portion which I hate most!) with leather that I purchased from local shop. It's just cosmetic change, but it looks way better in person IMHO. Just an idea for those who are looking for another mod.

J9000,

I did the door carpet(to leather) myself and it's easy to do. As long as you can remove the door panel, it can be done.

1. Remove the door panel (RennTech has the instruction)

2. Remove the door carpet: the best way to do this is using spoon. It took some time to do the first door, but the second took several minutes after figuring out the spoon trick.

3. Use 3M spray to put your vinyl/leather/carpet. use some towel to flat out. Be patient for professional result. (Need 2 person)

Yes Jeff, the interior carpet was replaced with black by local upholstery and I should have done that myself. (Thank you for the great instructions, I just couldn't remove the bolts on seats with my tools!).

My next project is to replace the ugly 4 spoke steering wheel.

I'm one of you, Jeff

Yes $76 was pretty cheap considering it's brand new.

Looks like everyone that I know of has 3 spoke wheel only and waiting to bid on airbag.

It's terrible that you have to outbid RennTech friends...I think we have to do group purchase or something.

Over the years I have bid on Boxster stuff just to realize I knew the person I was bidding against, so I stopped bidding. Just recently Aileen wanted the rucksack that goes between the seats and there was a cheap one on ebay with an hour left and no one had bid. So I bid on it for Aileen because I could not get her on the phone. Then someone started bidding against me - the user name was something dog. I bid again and was out bid. Then I remembered Aileen has a dog so I called her again on the phone and got through. It was her bidding against me. She won, and I only jacked up the price a few dollars.

I now have a list of ebay user names for Boxster owners I know.

When Ray and Aileen were looking for black vinyl 3 spoke air bags I found a place that had them for a decent price. I emailed them the seller's contact info, but my e-mail has since crashed. I think it was $280 and the seller had a few.

I got my 3 spoke and air bag years ago from a local S owner who was converting to a track car.

Do you still have the seller's contact info? (Sounds like you don't anymore...)

I'd be happy with $280 airbag. I contacted Sunset and they have new one at around $457, but shipping is $50-$70 to CA. LA Porsche wants $450 + CA Tax.(not sure if it's used or new).

Well my 4 spoke wheel looks BIGGER & UGLIER today. :drive:

My oldest email is maybe a few months. I sent Ray and Aileen the contact info before then. You will have to contact them and see if they still have the info.

Since then Ray bought a 3 spoke air bag from a local 996 owner, Russ. Russ who went from vinyl to leather, and Ray bought his vinyl air bag for $150. Never expect another deal like that.

And do not quote me on the $280 price since I cannot confirm it.

Aileen is still looking. But maybe not after this week is over. Inside story.
