  1. Hello all. I just purchased a 2004 Cayenne S. The Navigation unit is old and is not easily upgraded (via CD). I want to replace it with a newer unit. I am looking at the Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1308200NEX/Pioneer-AVIC-8200NEX.html. Its pricey. I also want to add a backup camera. Will any camera do or do you have recommendations? I want the camera to use the Pioneer head unit and automatically engage when the car shifts to Reverse. Any/all help/guidance is greatly appreciated. Carina
  2. Hello all. I am the proud new owner of a 2004 Porsche Cayenne S. I know, an oldie but goodie. She is a classic, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I used this forum to help me make the decision. I had a mechanic check her out. She is clean as a whistle. Looking through the manuals today I see that the original owner kept the maintenance log up to date (how cute is that?!?). I have never LOVED a car like I love this beast. I have always considered cars to be utilitarian - they get me from point A to point B.. The minute I drove the Cayenne, I was in love. It purrs.. it hugs the road, it just moves. And its so heavy! I feel so safe. All love aside, I was looking for a BMW or Audi with 60-90k miles... I love german engineering and I really like the navigation in these cars. I was looking at a 2009 X5 with 80k miles.. it was sitting next to a 2004 Cayenne with 80k miles. It really was a no-brainer. The car is spotless, well maintained, and a pleasure to drive. The only thing I need to figure out is the navigation. I know, before you all go off and make fun of me for being a newbie, I have read all the articles about the navigation. I feel like my Nav is on the edge of both the old and new... and I'm not sure what to do about it. Here are all the places I have found very valuable information - this site being my favorite to peruse, read, and gather information. http://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/251378-a-neat-trick-ascertaining-your-pcm-version.html http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=700942 http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne-955-957/183666-aftermarket-nav-cayenne.html http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne-955-957/148296-pcm2-0-pcm-3-0-a.html A couple of notes - - I found the CD's in the car. The manual says they are from 08.2004. And the are CDs. I believe this means I'm on the old system that cannot be updated. Boo. - I looked up the PCM version on the panel. It says version 3.0. Which I know means that its really 2.1.... Attached is the software versions from the PCM console.. Here is why I'm confused - If my software version says it is 3.0, doesn't that mean I'm at PCM 2.1... does this mean that my Cayenne is DVD (vs. CD) ready? I am prepared to rip the navigation out and put in something newer so that I can get iPod, Sirius XM, Nav, backup sensors and camera, but my OCD has the better of me. Which is it - am I able to upgrade my navigation to current times, or should I just replace the unit outright? Your advise and words of wisdom are greatly appreciated..
