  1. Kid: If your dealer has ben servicing you for about 2 years, why would he not "go over the entire car and replace whatever needs replacing under warranty" without obligating you to spring for a $1,200 tune up? It sounds to me as though the dealer is trying to "sell" this job. Regards, Maurice. Thanks maurice. So your saying at anytime with any car that I have, i can request the dealer to checkout the car for all warranty stuff before the warranty is over??? he told me that since they are inside the engine they can check everything and i dont pay extra and he will do what is bad under warranty.... Sorry for my lack of experience but i never brought a car to a mechanic.... if i go to the independent guy and he finds stuff that is going or needs replacememnt that would be covered under warranty, the mechanic can do this as well??? Last time i got the car serviced for last summer the dealer did a thorough inspection and i got new valve cover gaskets for free as well as tranny work, i only had tp pay for a clutch.... This is the first car i have ever owned that has over 30k miles and its the first used car even though i bought it from my bro. Living in NYC i do not put on many miles.... thanks maurice and any other contributors!!!!
  2. just got a quote from my dealer and the scheduled 90k mile tune up will cost me $1,200 but they throw in a full detail which my rep explained to me is just a wash and hand wax lol.... not sure if i want them waxing it though since i have a guy i use for years to do that.... anyways, the quote is $1,200. I called another dealer that is about 20 mins further away and he quoted me $1175 but no detailing lol so i found a mechanic that only works on imports and told me he has worked on porsche boxsters. His quote is for $920. my question is for the extra $300 should i just bring it to my dealer that has been servicing me for about 2 years now when i bought the porsche from my bro (Original owner). I have the extended warranty and it expires in May so at the same time the dealer said he will go over the entire car and replace whatever needs replacing under warranty for me : ) Am i naive and just being taken or is the $300 worth it especially since it is a 1999 and 90k miles soon.... the warranty work may be needed if he finds something.... thanks in advance...
  3. seems the michelins are very similar and using the same design/approach as the bosch and RainX which are more or less the same price as the other 2.
  4. I have been seeing commercials pop up for the new RainX Blade the Latitude. I had Bosch Icon on my s2000. Was going to order the Bosch for the porsche but was curious if anyone here is using the RainX Latitude and has feedback they can provide... Thanks in Advance. PS: this is something i can and will be installing myself ; )
  5. what do you expect the cost to be on something like this? I knwo what you mean about power. My 2001 Honda s2000 feels like a rocket compared to my boxster
  6. hey itzbob46, i will definitely be looking for a reliable mechanic as an alternative to the dealer. Only problem is i am very limited by what is near me, i am in New york City but i am determined to find a guy who specializes in porsches. hey boostiality, its tough for me to work on my car being that i do not have a garage or storage for tools.
  7. Funny, I’ve never taken my Porsches or BMWs to a dealer for out of pocket service… $320 for a battery…That’s great if it lasts 20 years (hint, it won't, neither will the car) Look at the batteries life expectancy, Their rated in years or months and that’s just about what you will get out of them. I’ve never had one die prematurely. 5 or 6 years are convenient. If they die early you’ll be given pro rata credit on your next battery, in other words you pay by the month rafadless of how long it lasts. Do have them do a load test et al. to make sure you charging stystem is in good shape Regards, PK Thanks for the info.... I just got back from PepBoys. I wound up going with them and their Bosch 48 700cca battery. Total bill came to $162.27 installed. Knocking on wood that all is good. First time for me in 11 years of driving that i had service done by a non-dealer so i hope all is good. I know many people tell me i am crazy to always go to dealer but i always felt comfortable. I am a freak with my rides and always want to know who is doing the work... being in manhattan the horror stories i hear from friends that went to independents is worrysome for me... Thanks for all the info!!!
  8. Hey Everybody... new to the board. Glad i found this site. I took over my brothers 1999 porsche boxster about 18 months ago when my s2000 lease was up and he needed an SUV for a growing family. ...The Battery died and i just called the dealer and they want $320 installed which, i have gotten use to porsche service prices but $320 for a battery was not kosher with me. I see that Sears offers a replacement Diehard international but on their site it had poor reviews. Pepboys offers a Bosch battery $110 installed. I never owned a car that i did not service at the dealer. If anyone here can confirm that Pepboys is a good alternative or sears or Auto zone.... i would appreciate it. Or if you have any other recommendations.... I know i have to get a size 48 with a minimum of 650cold crank Thanks in advance!
