  1. I have had 4 pumps put on. I do not recommend the aftermarket Lasco Brand. Make sure its a genuine porsche pump.
  2. pelicanparts.com has great instructions on do it yourself things like replacing the air filter etc...
  3. Thanks to everyone for their input. I took the car to a Porsche master mechanic. He pressure tested the system, torqued the water pump down and replaced some hoses that had a slight leak and used some screw down clamps. It's been dry as a bone for the past few days.
  4. I do not think the car has been pressure tested. When I first had the car towed to the shop it was obvious the water pump failed. Heard the bearings and then a massive leak. After the shop replaced the pump they did tell me the system (burps) and I may need to top off the fluid in a day or two. Again - the thing that I have noticed is a small drip off the center of my skid plate. I had to add a little coolant over the last month, but a very small amount. Since I am not a mechanic what would happen is the system wasn't filled under vacuum? I did call another shop today and they told me they have never heard of a pump failing this many times and did suggest I bring it in for a pressure test and to check other things like the fans etc...
  5. I have a 2005 Boxster S with 17K miles. I purchased the car last April with 13,500 miles. At around 14K the water pump went out. (bearing sounds and coolant loss) I had the pump replaced under an aftermarket warranty at my independent Porsche shop. (This shop is highy qualified and very active within the PCA) Since this time I have been through 4 water pumps. After they replace the pump I will get a small drip out the weep hole and have to add a very small amount of coolant to keep the fill tank in the middle. This is nothing major - I am talking about 1 bottle of water's worth over the course of a month. The water pump is OEM and made by Lasco. Does anybody know of any other pump that is more dependable than the OEM? Any thoughts or suggestions?
  6. Would like opinions on the following topics. START - After starting your Boxster should you just drive away, or let it warm up for a minute or two? STOP - After a drive should you let your Boxster idle for a minute or two, or should you just shut the engine off? DRIVE - My car seems the happiest between 4-5K RPM's when switching gears. (I have a 6 speed) I seem to get the most fun out it too. Should these cars be driven hard at least 50% of the time, or do we need to baby our toy?
  7. Mine are 18" - Thanks for the info Steve Wilson. I called tirerack.com and they said they could be out of round. They said to take it to a shop that has the Hunter GSP 9700 and if the tires are 15 LBS out of round they will replace them. So I guess I am going to the dealer (they have the balance machine), as I don't trust a chain tire store to jack up my car, as I have heard horror stories about them using the skid plate as a jacking point. Thanks to everyone for their replies.
  8. Yes I would replace the battery. These only last a few years at best.
  9. Thanks for the reply. I did check the tires and they are the Mich. Pilot Sport. They have OUTSIDE written on the tire, so I assume they are mounted correctly. I run 30 PSI in the front and 37 PSI in the rear. These are what the book says are correct. Since this is my first Porsche - in general does your car track? Meaning does it seem to feel even little imperfections in the road and travel accordingly? Again - I am only getting vibration at high speeds. If I take my hand off the wheel it doesn't steer off the the right or left, so I assume the alignment is OK. I recall the mechanic saying the rims are not bent and they seem to look fine. They said since it's a convertible I may experience some shimmy. I got the tires at tirerack.com a few weeks ago. Any other ideas?
  10. I am new to the board and new to the Porsche family. I have a 2005 Boxster S (987) with 15K miles. I have found a great independent here in Virginia Beach that has looked after my car for the past few months of ownership. Did an oil change, new tires and water pump (mine failed) Quick question here- I am getting some steering wheel vibration (shimmy) at about 65 MPH. I had the independent pull the wheels last week (front) and re-balance. They were about 15 off. The alignment seems fine. Still no change after the balance. I know this is a sports car and know it's a convertible, so don't expect a super smooth ride - but I am a bit nervous to push it over 80MPH. I am getting no noise up front - just a vibration in the wheel. Any thoughts?
