  1. Tolum got it right and my mechanic has been struggling with this for years! I have a bone stock 2003 Boxster S 3.2L 85,000 miles, with the same whistling / kazoo / howling / blowing into a bottle sound. It has made this sound for years. Finally it got so bad that it was making the noise at an idle. I replaced the Carbon Cont Value 996 605 213 01. It has been a week since I replaced the value and the whistling has not returned. In addition it fixed what I had thought was a minor vacuum leak, manifesting as a low rpm stumble or flat spot between idle and 2000 rpm, vastly improving the drivability of the car at low rpms (think crowded 5 mph parking garage). To replace, remove the passenger side headlight. Look into the fender with a flashlight and you will see two values that appear identical, you want to replace the second value but will need to remove the first to get access to the second. Remove the electrical connection from the first value. The electrical connections and the valve seats are different so you cannot accidently get them mixed up. On my car I used a T-25 torx to remove the screw between the two valves. The torx was in so tight I needed to use a ¼ ratchet with a 3 inch extension, any longer and it will not fix in the fender, any shorter and it will not clear the first valve. Once the screw is removed, slide up the collar holding the values down. Using a flat screw driver (I used a panel puller) gently pry up the first value and set it aside. Mine came out easily. Now pry the second value out, disconnect the electrical. Keep everything clean, I had a few sand particles around the value seats. You do not what sand on the O-ring seals or in the evap system. Reverse to reinstall. It took me about an hour most of which was getting my tools ready and protecting the painted services and then putting everything back. The actual procedure takes minutes if you do not drop the screw in the fender!
  2. Loren, Man you are quick! Thanks! I think the pinout is the same, but my amplifier is a Becker. And yes I am sure it is a 490 because I see it listed on the option sticker in the front trunk and the sticker on the amp says Becker. I was looking for the wire colors for the rear speakers. Two reds, black and brown, at this point I am just not sure which are left and which are right. But armed with this information I should be able to figure it out. Thanks again. David
  3. Loren, I could use the wire diagram for the M490 amplifier you mentioned above. 2003 US Boxster S, front , door and rear speakers. Thanks, David
  4. Thanks Loren, I will start with the light switch. David
  5. US 2003 Boxster S, Halogen headlamps, no washers I seem to have the same issue. All lights work, interior, exterior with the exception of high and low beam headlights. Oddly High beam flash and the dim parking lights do work. Problem is intermittent, when High/Low beams do not work, both left and right sets are out at the same time. I do not have Day Light Running lights. I think this narrows it down to the ignition switch or the light switch. I am inclined to start with the ignition switch as I see so many post about problems with it. DCorral
  6. 2003 Boxster S. I have two keys with three button remotes. Both are programmed to the car and have worked in the past. Lately one of the remotes works intermittently, the other still works fine. The misbehaving remote flashes very slowly no matter which button is pressed, the working remote flashes quickly. I have checked the battery, replaced the battery and swapped batteries between remotes, the slow flashing continues. I pulled the module from the key and do not see any obvious solder joint problems. Any suggestions on what to check next? Can I replace just the electronic module in the key? Will replacing the key module require reprogramming the car? A couple of years back I took the car into the dealer because the remotes would open the doors but the seat memory was not working. They ended up reprogramming the keys to the car. They told me that the computer could only be programmed a certain number of times for keys and that mine was on its last key code. Is it possible that there is a limit to the number of times the car can be reprogrammed for keys?
