Can someone validate whether or not the dealer ACTUALLY has to install the PCM 3.0 Nav Update? Unless there is some voodoo that they have to do with the PIWIS, why do they need 2 hrs of labor to insert a disc and press "enter" a few times?? Seems a waste if you can read directions... Thanks for any help.

Hello all. I am the proud new owner of a 2004 Porsche Cayenne S. I know, an oldie but goodie. She is a classic, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. I used this forum to help me make the decision. I had a mechanic check her out. She is clean as a whistle. Looking through the manuals today I see that the original owner kept the maintenance log up to date (how cute is that?!?). I have never LOVED a car like I love this beast. I have always considered cars to be utilitarian - they get me from point A to point B.. The minute I drove the Cayenne, I was in love. It purrs.. it hugs the road, it just moves. And its so heavy! I feel so safe. All love aside, I was looking for a BMW or Audi with 60-90k miles... I love german engineering and I really like the navigation in these cars. I was looking at a 2009 X5 with 80k miles.. it was sitting next to a 2004 Cayenne with 80k miles. It really was a no-brainer. The car is spotless, well maintained, and a pleasure to drive. The only thing I need to figure out is the navigation. I know, before you all go off and make fun of me for being a newbie, I have read all the articles about the navigation. I feel like my Nav is on the edge of both the old and new... and I'm not sure what to do about it. Here are all the places I have found very valuable information - this site being my favorite to peruse, read, and gather information. http://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/251378-a-neat-trick-ascertaining-your-pcm-version.html http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=700942 http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne-955-957/183666-aftermarket-nav-cayenne.html http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne-955-957/148296-pcm2-0-pcm-3-0-a.html A couple of notes - - I found the CD's in the car. The manual says they are from 08.2004. And the are CDs. I believe this means I'm on the old system that cannot be updated. Boo. - I looked up the PCM version on the panel. It says version 3.0. Which I know means that its really 2.1.... Attached is the software versions from the PCM console.. Here is why I'm confused - If my software version says it is 3.0, doesn't that mean I'm at PCM 2.1... does this mean that my Cayenne is DVD (vs. CD) ready? I am prepared to rip the navigation out and put in something newer so that I can get iPod, Sirius XM, Nav, backup sensors and camera, but my OCD has the better of me. Which is it - am I able to upgrade my navigation to current times, or should I just replace the unit outright? Your advise and words of wisdom are greatly appreciated..

I have the following symptoms: Change to settings (Comfort) reset to default once car is turned off and locked and unlocked. Time for Clock returns to what was the initial setting on dash and PCM. You can set the clock and drive the car, the clock works until you turn off the car. PCM returns to radio even when i have selected CDC or CD after restarting the Navigation map not showing correct location. the current location shows i am somewhere in Mexico Date shows 01/01/00. There is no way to change it. Anyone have ideas on what the issue is? Thanks for your help.

Hi All! I have a question for the group. I noticed today my map screen is freezing on my last stop. The navigation works fine when I put in a new destination and activate the route guidance but when I come to a stop, or slow significantly, the map will default back to my last location. For example, the last destination I entered was Brookdale, NJ and today I put in Brookhaven, NY. The system worked fine but when ever I would slow down significantly, or come to a stop the map would go back to the NJ location and then return to my current route once I was back at speed. Any ideas? Thanks

I just bought a 2006 Carrera 4. It saying PCM on the original bill of sale... does that mean I have navigation? When I press the NAV button it is saying NAV is not available. I think the DVD might be missing and I know I can buy them on Ebay, but where is the actual DVD slot. I downloaded the PCM 2.1 manual but the information is very limited and it doesn't tell me where the actual DVD player is located. Where is the DVD player?

06 Cayenne S - new to me 2 weeks ago. Hi, Last 2 days I have seen some odd Sat Nav problems. Yesterday I noticed the icon was off by a few hundred meters in one axis. The road was being tracked in a straight line but I was passing roads that the map showed as being ahead. Sometime later the map froze. Searching the threads, I found the status and it showed 0GPS & 0D satellites. Today I drove some 80 miles and on the return leg the status page started to update with a location and the coordinates updated as the car moved. Then I saw 4 GPS and 2D - the icon moved to the right place on the map. But only for a few seconds - the map froze. The behavior continued during the journey - coordinates changing - no sats being shown and the icon not inthe righ place on the map. When I got home I removed the spoiler and check the GPS AE - all secure - no loose connections - easy to get at - harder if you lose the screw in the double skin - thank goodness for magnetic tools. I also pulled the PCM - no loose connections. I have reset the PCM with 1, 4 & 8 & ejected the disk and cleaned it Questions: 1 is it one cable run from the GPS AE to the PCM - or is there a break point I might have a loose connection? 2 can the GPS AE be checked with a multimeter or the like (how does the connector come off - I could not remove it...) 3 Is there any other areas I can look or ideas some may have to try to troubleshoot further. I think my next step is to repalce the AE as this seem the most likely culprit and the cheapest item to change. Thoughts anybody? Thanks Simon

My navigation system cant seem to acquire sattelites consistently so I want to reboot the PCM system by removing the fuse. I looked on the drivers footwell and saw the fusebox cover and diagram but I cant seem to figure out which fuse needs to be pulled for the PCM. Do any of you know which fuse number it is? Thanks.

The radio / cd / Navigation unit in my 2006 Carrera S is having display issues. I can't figure out a pattern. It is sporadic, happens sometimes when cold, sometimes when hot. Sometimes it is fine a startup and then goes haywire, sometimes the other way around. Is there a fix other than replacing? Is this a common issue? It always produces something. Sometimes almost solid white lines, it has even done duplicate images side by side at half of their original size.

Hi. My Bose amp is bad on my '06 Cayenne S w/ navigation, so I'm going to go ahead and upgrade the head unit to a Pioneer AVIC-1040 and go to an aftermarket amp. I searched the forums, but couldn't find this posted (though I'm guessing it has before). Any recommendations for an amp and how many channels (5?)? What's the best way to group the factory speakers into the amp channels? What's the best way to retain the steering wheel controls?thanks in advance,Kevin

Hello folks, I have a 2001 986 boxster with the Becker CDR 220 radio, amp, dash speakers, door subs, and rear speaker kit. I do not have the boise sound system. I would like to add factory navigation and found a PCM 2 unit on ebay 996.642.234.02. My question is about if it is possible to make the conversation to this nav unit. Since this is PCM 2 does that mean it wouldnt work with the amp? If it is possible what other parts do I need such as a GPS antenna? Thanks Aarron
