Modular Dash

Recommended Posts

I was tired of the "standard" layout of the center dash; i.e. climate control, radio and bins. The cupholders and cd storage were a waste of space and I needed more storage bins. After accumulating the necessary components, I went to work to re-arrange the dash. Porsche did a very nice job of making this area modular so you can move things around as you wish. I must admit, I've never seen anyone put the radio in this position and I think it works very well. Interested in your feedback.

The parts necessary to move the dash components around are as follows:

A. Move climate control to upper position: 2 adapters 996 573 501 00 trim 996 552 677 00

B. Upper storage bin 996 552 253 01

C. Lower storage bin 996 552 243 01

Remove cupholders and cd storage tray, sell on eBay for big $. The rest is just moving the wiring harness around; it all works.

Sorry for being a doofus and not knowing where they were originally. Are the three top slots then completely interchangeable? Could I move the climate control to the #3 slot? Mine (2000) is stock and the climate is in #1, and the stereo is in #2. I put an MP3 in #3, and I have a G-meter in #4.

I've had my Becker unit flake out a few times. If it ever goes, I'm wondering if I could put in a double-DIN nav or something like that and move the climate to the #3 slot. Thanks for the pics!

You need a changer.

That's pretty funny, especially the European cabinet hinge. I wonder what the passenger would think of the relative priorities of music versus passenger safety (no airbag, right?)

In the photo the very last piece of the center consol has BOXTER S written on it. Can you get this with Carrera on it - and if so where? Thanks

Did you change the filter on the head unit? When I had mine there for a while I couldn't read the display, it turns out the filter is polarized and for a few dollars Becker will exchange it for one polarized such that it can be read clearly at that angle.
