Litronic lights... It was supposed to be so easy ;)

Recommended Posts

Hey Forum...

I have searched the forum for a answer to this one...

I have bought a set of XENON from design911UK. I asked before I purchased if I needed anything else, but I was told I only needed the headlights - however it seems I am missing something!

Because I dont have the wires to fit the back of the headlamp - a small plug, only the wires that was originally installed in my halogens.

When I turn on the lights they light up very nicely but I am not if they adjust how they are supposed to - help please :)

What am I missing ?

My car is a 1998 (May) Boxster, tiptronic.

Kind regards

Morten

You are missing the control unit and the wiring harness. 4 wires come from the control unit to the headlight, and another 4 wires go to the other headlight. There are people like you who just put in the headlights and do not bother with the control unit.

Where can I buy this control-unit-kit ? And is it complicated to install ?

If I do not install this kit, can I then manually adjust the angle of the lamps ?

Thanks ToolPants, second time you help me out this week - amazing...

You can buy the control unit from any Porsche dealer. If you had purchased the litronic retrofit kit then it would have been included in the box with the headlights. Some people who buy the retrofit kit do not install the control unit and if you can find a person like that you may be able to buy the control unit.

It is not hard to install. You need to remove everything in the front trunk. You need to hook up wires to the control unit so that it will operate, and then the wires from the control unit to the headlights. Porsche has written instructions on how to do this. The local owners also filmed how to do this and put it on a DVD. In the picture Henry is holding the control unit while Ray is filming.

The purpose of this control unit is simple. The low beam/lamp is xenon. The high beam/lamp is halogen. If the control unit is connected then when you turn on the high beam the low beam rotates up a few degrees to combine both beams. This rotation is done via a motor in the headlight. But without the control unit the motor will not work. Your plug with no wires to it is to operate this motor.

You can still manually adjust the angle of the lamps without the control unit.
