Chiptuning to improve performance

I recently joined the club with a '86 UK 928 S2. Even with 300hp the heft of the car still makes it rather sluggish. I am looking at an option from DTE chiptuning to upgrade the performance and am surprised they still service cars this age. All in all $1200 would get me roughly 20hp and 30lb torque on the original engine. Then, the next surprise came on eBay when I chanced upon chips selling for less than $50 claiming to do the same.

Has any good folks here have any experience with chiptuning and is the end result worth it? (I am sure even with the $50 chip I would still have to sink another $300 or so for installation)

Cheers,

John
