Alternator Clutch Pulley Vs. Solid Pulley

Recommended Posts

Has Anyone Knowledge Of Why Porsche Uses The Clutch Pulley On The Manual Trans Cars VS. THE SOLID PULLEY ON THE TIPTRONIC CARS ?

Has Anyone Installed The Solid Pulley On A Manual Trans Car With Any Differences ,and Or Issues With Idle Quality, Etc.?

It is possible to install a solid pulley on cars with manual transmission without differences or issues, take note that solid pulleys needs metal rollers instead of plastic rollers. Solid pulleys gives too much wear on plastic rollers, you have to change them out for metal ones.

The early Boxsters all had a fixed pulley. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...0&hl=pulley Are you replacing the alterna

Great info guys!

Apparently the belts were flying off and the free wheeling pulley was a fix for that purpose??

?? Is has anyone that put the solid pulley back on the manual cars had issues with the belt flying off??

Yes............I am replacing the alternator.

Just found out today that the 2005 997 went to a 150 amp identical unit which is upgraded from the 120 amp unit.

I see Vertex offering the newer unit for 99 and up p cars so I am assuming there is no issue putting the 150 amp unit into the 120 amp system.

Anyone have knowledge of this??

I'm in the process of having my OEM 150 Amp Bosch alternator rebuilt. My car has a manual trans but the alternator has a fixed type pulley (like for a Tip), should I have the electric shop change-out my pulley for a clutch type with bearings? I've read that it is more efficient and will extend the life of the unit.
