Replacement LED bulbs for boxster interior lighting

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 boxster S. The interior lighting (overhead, doors, luggage compartment) and the licence plate lights are all LED bulbs. It appears these were some sort of an upgrade that a previous owner did. Some of the bulbs are now burnt out so I need to replace. I have been unsuccessful in finding out much about these LED bulbs - NAPA and the PET catalog appear to only offer some type of incandecent bulb.

If anyone can point me to info on this I would appreciate it, or point me to where to buy replacement bulbs.

I could post a picture of the bulb if thats useful.

Thanks - Joel

Aloha Joel,

L.E.D. or Light Emitting Diodes are not bulbs not and they do not break like bulbs. They do burn out though. They are made of plastic and have a molded lens built in the top of them. The junction that lights up when energized is a Galium Arsonide diode junction that emits light in different colors (depending on the substraight material and the voltage applied).

These are generally not available in auto parts stores but you can try an electronics supply house such as Allied Electronics. You will probably need to install these yourself. At twelve volts a 560 ohm .5watt resister will also need to be installed in series with the LED. They are polorized so plus and minus is important. They will only light when connected properly. If you need more help with schematics drop me a line. I am in the process of switching all of the lights on my Boxster to LEDs save the headlights. They will remain the same except for the LED angel eye rings I am building.

Mahalo

This site seems to have exactly what I am looking for. Much appreciated.

jmacdona, did you ever order your? Did you fingure out what sizes they are. I looked at those but their pictures and our bulb marking does give me much of a clue.

WLED-xHP5 works for the side markers, dome light, and door/courtesy lights. Dome light is a little bright tho (using white).
