PCM 1 wiring harness

Recommended Posts

Hallo

is there a part number for the wires that belong to the PCM 1.

I read an article on the internet how to retrofit a PCM 1 in a Boxster. It seems to be easy, but only with the harness. On the photo attached to the article was the harness, but I don't know if the person made it on her own, or bought it from Porsche.

Thanks

Turro

Sorry, but I think you are beating a dead horse.

Compared to what is available today PCM 1 is an Apple 1.

There are many 3rd party solutions that are easier, less expensive, and have ten times the capability of PCM 1.

If you must have the OEM look-and-feel then you best check with salvage yards for PCM 1 parts.

Haaaaa.... I almost PMed you Loren!  Yeah, I may be beating that poor horse.  I am looking for an OEM look and like the look of the PCM 1.  IMHO, it fits the car.  If I can't figure this out I'll go back to the original CDR-220.  I'll post my results.... positive or negative!

Hi Chuck! I'm replacing my PCM 1 including Navi cd, cd changer, pcm1 unit with a touch screen 2-din car navi/stereo android unit so...I can check what's leftover when I've done that. I think i'm not been able to use the original harness that came with the cpm to my upgrade and then the most of the harness will be leftover! If you are interested you can contact me with a message! My Porsche Center here in Sweden couldn't get me the right codes for the unlocking of the unit so...i'm pissed of waiting after four received codes and trying. As Loren say's...it's an old pice of electronic and there are many great updates out there but I understand the OEM thinking. /Per

Thanks Jamtlanskillen.

After doing a ton of work on this and contacting two shops that specialize in Porsche audio systems I have abandoned this project.

The professional audio shops wouldn't touch it and didn't know of anyone that had done this. I did find one post that the OP had added the PCM1, and he stated he would have never done it if he had known how much trouble it was.   When Porsche builds these cars they put a wiring harness in the car that fits the OEM equipment.  With the PCM1 they put a harness with the extra plugs that power and run the unit.  It is possible if you have the time and talent to add the needed plugs to the existing harness, but that is over my head.  Looking at the plugs that plug into the back of the PCM1 and the CDR220, it would appear that the radio portion should be plug and play.  Not so.  The pins in each of the plugs have different values.  Even jumping pins I couldn't get the head unit to power up.

So, I dumped the Kenwood double din and went back to the OEM CDR220 radio,  It was an effort in futility that I enjoyed!

Ha again Chuck! I've done my installing now by removing the of PCM1 head unit and replacing it with a 2din PUMPKIN Android unit. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to do this. The only thing now is to move the OBC functions to the Cluster Instrument but I've done my reading so it should not be too much problems! I post a image so you can see how the new installation looks like!

Very good Jamtlanskillen.  It appears..... OK, it's a fact..... that it is much easier to delete the PCM1 and install an aftermarket unit.  I will always be disappointed that I couldn't complete my project.  The 993 Porsches came with a telephone console.  A worthless feature now but highly sought after for its different look and rarity.  Kind of like the PCM1.
