soft top light stays on when top is up.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a 2000 986,

The soft top light indicator comes off once the top is down (as it should) but stays on when it's up...

Any idea on what is the cause and how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Assuming you have the "B Version" transmissions, you have two microswitches INSIDE the top transmission on the driver's side (left side).

Either one of the microswitches is bad or the timing is off slightly.

To determine for certain whether you have the B Version transmissions, verify that your convertible top double relay has a black square (NOT a black triangle) on it.

To determine whether the timing might just be off, you can disconnect all four pushrods and operate the switch until you get to the equivalent of the fully closed position and then keep the button depressed to see if the light goes out with just a little bit more rotation.

See this thread for further details: http://www.renntech....957#entry185957 , at posts #11 (for identifying the relay) and #27 ( for detaching the pushrods).

If you want more pics and details on the location of the pushrods, also check out Mike Focke's website, in the section for The Top: http://sites.google....e%26replacement

Regards, Maurice.

Maurice, you were correct. The timing was off. I simply had to lubricate the tracks and linkages. A good lesson learned on preventative maintenance.

Thanks again.

Excellent work! clapping.gif

Excellent advice from Loren to make sure that your drains are clear, especially now that the fall season is approaching.

Regards, Maurice.
