Recently my 99 996 Alarm when set, blow the horn once. With Durametric I see the following codes:

33 Interionr Sensor Faulty

Status not Present

Frequency 1

10 Voltage Failure at terminal 30

Status not present

Frequency 1

60 Control Lacking position

Lock not reached

Status not present

Frequency 6

I cannot reset the codes. Normally I reset any codes and see if they show up again but the reset code function is not available for this code reading?

Any ideas? Help is always appreciated.

So far, 4 year and no dealer visits, Thanks RennTech.org and Durametrics

I think the only code you need to worry about is the 33 interior sensor code.

The voltage failure code is normal for changing or disconnecting the battery and will not cause the horn beep.

The locking code is similar - double locking or hitting lock before the door is closed can casue this - this will not cause the horn beep either.

Fault 33 - Passenger compartment monitoring sensor faulty

Replace passenger compartment monitoring sensor.

Loren:

So that's what those "eyes" are for. I've got the same problem as Davet18. I don't have a Durametric but if the part isn't too expensive I'd like to swap a new one in. Part #?

This begs another question: When setting the alarm, if the system isn't supposed to beep, how do you know when you've set it. Just the flashing lights? Most cars do both a flash and a beep.

Thanks

Looking for the sensor part number - can't remember where it is in the parts list.

Yes, the lights flash when the alarm is armed or dis-armed.

I did the sidemarker hack on my car do the turn signals and flashers also make the side markers flash - so the bonus is I also see the alarm lights flash on the sidemarkers.

First of all...that manual is fantastic!

It says that the part is a temperature sensor. How can a temp sensor be behind a solid plastic "alien eye" Furthermore, could this temp sensor really be causing the alarm to beep when engaged? I guess was thought that this sensor was a motion sensor like the one I have on my Audi.

You have not talked about having an aftermarket radio, but my aftermarket radio was making my horn beep when setting the alarm. There is a way around this problem if you have changed out your radio. You just have to place some sort of barrier between the metal of the radio and the left side sensor. This solved my problem.

  • 7 months later...

Well I finally decided to buy the parts and fix the horn beep when I set the alarm. I bought the new sensor (two alien eyes), installed it, and the horn still beeps when I set the alarm. I ran the durametrics and an additional alarm code: 49 K lead, status not present showed up. So now there are the following codes:

49 k lead Status: not present, frequency 1

33 interior sensor faulty Status: present frequency 1

10 Voltage failure at terminal 30 with alarm system active Status: not present Frequency 1

60 Central locking limit position, lock not reached, Status: not present Frequency 7

Any suggestions?

If the battery was dis-connected then you would likely get fault codes 10 and 49.

Since you have gotten fault code 60 - 7 times I would be concerned that there is a (mechanical) lock problem in the drivers side door.

I would clear the all codes. Then lock and unlock the car a couple of times and re-test for faults.

This should confirm any "real" remaining faults.

Loren, Thanks for all your help. Your last post caused me to look at the oddment door latch and sure enough that was the problem. About 4 years ago I installed the Bird Oddment extension and the latching mechanism which is supposed to push on the switch to indicate that the lid is closed was loose so the alarm system was seeing a door open and indicated the condition by a single beep. All is good now.

As an aside when I realized that could be the problem I emailed Sam Bird for a copy of the installation instructions and within 24 hours he called and walked me through the 15 minute fix. Great customer service.

Thanks again
