G96/00 versus G96/01 gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 1999 Porsche 911 cabriolet with G96/00 gearbox with LSD that needs to be replaced. From my research, I understand that G96/01 are made stronger to accommodate 3.6 liter engine for 2002 to 2005 Porsche 911/996.

Questions:

Can I put in G96/01 gearbox with LSD into my 1999 911?

What modifications are required?

Do I have to replace the clutch to fit G96/00 or G96/01 gearbox?

Thanks for all your help,

Ben

I am also wondering if it is a direct swap for a G96-01 into where a G96-00 has been and what, if any mods are required. I have heard I need to update my clutch to the MK2 996 specs and also install the later style clutch release fork and associated bearings, pins etc..

Can anyone shed any light on this please?
