Radio "dead" after replacing battery. I HAVE THE CODES! (But no way to enter them)

I see a lot of info out there about how to find your lost radio codes and whatnot, but that is not my problem as I have my codes. The issue is that after 1)having a dead battery, 2)replacing said battery, and 3)having the car sit unused for a week while waiting on a replacement coolant tank part, I NOW HAVE A DEAD-SCREEN RADIO AND NO WAY TO ENTER THE CODE OR TURN ON THE RADIO.

I can see that other people may have experienced this phenomenon but I can't seem to find anyone with a published solution as everyone seems to digress into a discussion of where to find your radio codes, etc.

I assume that there is some sort of arcane Porsche security gremlin at work here, and that I need to follow some other sort of procedure in order to get my radio to accept the code and unlock itself. But without the radio showing any signs of life at all, how do I get into this?

Or is my radio now dead for no apparent reason?! (e.g., it was working just fine up until the dead battery and service work time-span).

I hate to invest in a replacement radio until I can ascertain what would make it suddenly die(?) Never in all my years of auto ownership have I seen a radio just "go silent". So what's up here?

Hi...I have the same issue as Gowestwardho ... Infact I did take a look at the fuse (drivers side for now) that one seems to be ok...have ordered for becker CDR 220 removal keys and I am hoping the fuse behind the radio is blown out - as this one will be an easy fix. But other than that is there anything that could possibly be checked for...once again I do have the codes just the radio is dead for me to enter the codes

Be sure a dodgy ignition switch isn't causing the issue, slightly turn the key back and forth to see if the radio powers up.

The radio is the stock CDR 220

I am hoping it will turn out to be simply the integral (rear mounted) 10A fuse and am waiting on the key to take it out and check. I'd be hard-pressed to think it could be a coincidence that the radio blows at the same time that the car sat for a week un-used waiting on the coolant tank part and new battery. So we'll see..."film at eleven"....

Hi there...I just recd my keys that I had ordered over the weekend...I did manage to get the radio out (need to figure out a way to get it back in) ...the 10A fuse behind was blown so replaced with another one and it works just fine :). I am guessing you have run into a similar issue, hope its just the fuse...wish you luck and let us all know!

I second the 10amp fuse behind the radio being bad. For some reason, they put a 10 amp on the back of the radio but then put a 15 amp in the fuse box. Logic would say the 10 amp would always blow first, so why didn't they put behind the radio since it's a pain the the butt to get to???

There might be other consumers on the main fuse that aren't listed or the circuit is split between two fuses. The radio couldn't be easier to remove for fuse access.

My radio is a stock CR-220 that came with my 2002 911.

I had a dead battery recently. I had some issues trying to get my car started. I eventually got everything fixed, and now my radio doesn't work. It doesn't even turn on. I think it may be a fuse behind the radio. So I'd like to remove the radio and check it.

I also had my owners manual (and radio instruction manual) stolen. But I'll deal with that later. I do have my radio security code.

OK, so I got the radio removal tools. They worked perfectly and the radio came out easily. The 10 amp fuse in the back was blown.

So I changed the fuse, entered the security code, and everything seemed to work perfectly except for one thing . . . there is no sound.

All of the radio controls work perfectly when you look at the display and ignore the fact that there is no sound. The preset buttons still have the same radio stations, all of the electronic adjustments work (volume, fader, balance, bass/treble), on/off works with no issues, etc.

I removed some of the wire clusters in the back of the radio and reattached them. I thought one of those might be loose or have a bad connection. But doing that didn't make any difference (that I could tell).

Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions on how to get sound? Is there a separate fuse for the speakers?

I got everything working fine now. I will answer my own question with the hope that this may help someone in the future with similar problems.

I checked my fuses at position D8 and D9. They were both 15 amp fuses on my car. The D9 fuse was blown. So I changed it and everything works now.

And to complicate things, I am totally perplexed! The panel is completely bland and pushing the 'on' or 'tp' buttons have no effect. I can't get any response that the radio is functioning at all. The red flashing security light on my CR220 is operating, so I assume there is power to the radio. I purchased the removal tools and, after removing the radio, posted the model number, serial number, etc., and received a response for the codes. The fuse on the back of the radio looks okay; it is a 15 amp, so must have been replaced at an earlier time. Is there any sort of further 'testing' I can do to determine if the radio is still functioning? I hate to toss it and purchase a new one if it is repairable. Thanks so much for any input you may give.

I am a new member here, and had the issue with a dead battery, code needed and not provided by previous owner (2002 996 Carrera) and all the suggested codes, etc. to no avail. I successfully found my code by utilizing the trick of getting the serial number and model code (another four digit number) with the directions listed on the Becker website. Just put Becker in your browser, find their main website, and on the left side of the page there is an option for "Codes".  Click there, then find "Porsche" vs MB, etc... and you will eventually see that they (for a $35 fee of course) email you your code IF you provide those serial numbers and model code (see above).  They describe the trick involved in turning on the power, pushing one of the top buttons, seeing "Becker 1" then turning the right hand knob selector to the right to get to the model code and serial number.  This was the process I used, and they emailed me my code pretty quickly, and I am getting a new physical card with the code on it in the mail. My radio was the radio provide with the "Advanced Technic Package" option for the 911 in 2002, and the face of the radio simply said Porsche, CDR-220.  It is imperative that you find the box to send them a message with your radio info, and this took some looking around, but even I found it (pretty computer handicapped).  There is an option to go through Ebay to get the code from Becker. So I am back in business, and feel free to email me at garywilshire@gmail.com if I can better explain the process.

   The individual with the totally blank screen may have some power issue (check fuse) or some fault within the radio. I am told the serial number is physically on the unit, under the front hood, but I haven't taken mine out. I was able to get the serial number as described above. I would start by trying to define who actually made the radio, and if it's a Becker, I'd go to their website as I did for code recovery, and find some tech help on that radio.  Any info found on the radio will help identify the model number.  

   I hope this is some value to someone with radio issues. I read a lot of suggestions, code hints, etc. to no avail.
