Tiptronic Emergency Run

Recommended Posts

This message keeps randomly displaying after I've been driving the car a while. I don't notice any problems with the transmission shifting either automatically or with the paddles and at times when I just let off the accelerator the message goes away.

One thing I do notice when I park the car after driving it awhile is a hot oily smell. Do you think it's the transmission fluid getting to hot? I sure don't know what it is, but any ideas on what it is and what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Thx. Jeff

Dear Loran,

I just bought (1 week ago) a Boxster S with tiptronic transmission 2003 MY has done only 49000km, the car is german however was only driven a couple of times in the past 3 years. Yersterday when i turned on the car and waited a little bit to heat (which i always do before i drive off) however i noticed that when it switched to 4th gear there was a gap before the transmission took its place again when i didnt move the throttle pedal however during the day it never happened again. Today while i turned on the car same thing happened however on a longer period and then a pop up message on the dashboard showed up written "Emergency Tiptronic Run" followed by "drive to workshop" ... Any clue regarding that? should i change the Gearbox fluid?

Please let me know

Regards

It could be a fluid issue. but to be safe you should have the car scanned with a Porsche specific tool to see what transmission codes come up.

Well, I have a Porsche Boxster S 2003MY with a Tiptronic S transmission.

When the car is turned on, after a long night sleep there is no way the shifter would shift, as you know the car drives off with 2nd gear, while it appears on 2nd gear on the dashboard it actually is being driven on 1st gear, so I basically have to keep on trying to drive it around the house for around 15-20 mins so that the car would heat up for the transmission to work normal again... So basically the car cannot be driven on a cold start.

Also, the 5th is always slipping.

So as I suppose the transmission is dead? can it by any chance be rebuilt? or I'll have to go into a 3-4k $ issue to buy another transmission?

When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed?
