Yes....it's another clutch firmness thread.

I currently have a 2000 996 and the clutch feels really stiff/firm compared to the 2002 Boxster that I sold.

I checked the assist spring and it's not broken.

I'm planning on flushing the brakes and clutch this weekend.

The fly wheel, clutch pressure plate, disk and throw out bearing were replaced about 2500 miles ago (right before I bought the car).

Any reason why the 996 clutch would feel much stiffer than the Boxster clutch?

The clutch pedal will get firmer as the clutch disc wears.I would check it against other 996's -- and if it is quite a bit firmer then replace it before it is down to the rivets and damages the flywheel.

Then it could be wrong parts or a heavy duty (racing) clutch. With out looking it is likely hard to tell.

I would just keep an eye on it.

Oh, and you might also check the clutch spring on the pedal inside the car - sometimes they get stiff or someone has used the wrong lubricant on them. Or even some folks remove the spring.

Hate to post a stupid question but what exactly do you mean by firmness?

I haved the same car (2000 Carrera 4) and the clutch engages right at the top of the travel. It doesn't slip but I take this to mean that I need a new clutch. However, the clutch travel seemingly is pretty standard...not light or "heavy". This is why I am asking what do you mean by "firm"
