a mystery leak- what is it?

Recommended Posts

Recently, I have noticed when I pull out my 08 CTT (51K miles) from my garage that there's sometimes (actually only seen it a couple of times) a small little puddle of something right under my drivers side, rear axle (right inside of rear tire)  I was thinking it was water since it was actually gone by the time I come back to park my car in the garage.  Now I noticed that there's actually some sort of stain starting to form on the concrete.  And I don't smell ANYTHING.

I just read another post about a leaking fuel pump flange/filter however most everyone on that thread talked about smelling gas in the garage or in their cayenne. I don't smell anything, anywhere!

I even went ahead and lifted my rear seat, pulled the circle of carpet to locate the lid for the fuel pump and stuck my nose around it and noticed nothing.  I would think if I smelled gasoline it would be what others have mentioned as the fuel pump/flange.

Any clues or other suggestions?  Appreciate the help.

Did you ever find out what this is? Have you inspected the fluid to figure out what it is? Is it hydralic oil, water, brake fluid? It can be anything. I had the same weird issue with my X5. It turned out to be one of my brake lines cracked over time and it was leaking. If it is brake fluid, touch it with your fingers, if it feels oily it will have a funky scent as well. I would check the brake fluid level as to make sure. If so, top it off if need be and drive it to the repair shop. Hope this helps. good luck.
