Thinking of buying a Roof transport system

Recommended Posts

Guys...I was thinking to buy a roof transport system together with the OEM bicycle carrier.

Having a look around, it looks like the OEM cross braces will not fit on my cayenne as I allready have the rails installed?

So my question is, will these cross braces fit a cayenne which has the stock roof rails installed?

As I understand they are mounted like this:

And my cayenne which has the roof rails would need cross braces like this:

Any thoughts?

They should fit provided they are sized for your year and model. You will need to remove the rails you have on though.

Here are the instructions that were sent to me years ago that I used to remove my rails:

I just removed my roof rails. Each roof rail has three rubber grommets. I found it easiest to pop them out with a small standard screw driver. After you pop out the grommets, you will have to unscrew the six hex screws. After the hex screws are removed just wiggle the rails and they will break free. To remove the six brackets you will need to use a torx screw driver. The torx screws are really tight so you will need a tool with plenty of leverage. A socket torx will not fit so you will have to use one with a screw driver handle. I decided to sacrifice my torx screw driver and used a vise grip on the handle to give me the added leverage needed.

so i have a thule setup since i got everything for 40 bucks.....i <3 dumb people on craigslist.

but for bikes 100% go for a hitch setup.  i have a 50lb DH rig and i'm 5'5"....way easier to just put it on the hitch saris carrier.

If you aren't towing....you won't even need to get the tow module or harness....

The Transport System [1st pic] goes straight to the roof of the Cayenne and is not compatible with the long roof railings [2nd pic]. My cayenne didn't have any, so I figured that my best choice was the Transport... Your bicycle railing [3rd pic] is an exclusive fit for the long railing and as you can see is like the Transport system which goes side to side...
