new pencil coils part number

I was just looking at getting some new coils and noticed that yet another new part number has surfaced (94860210421). Didn't the version 20 coils just get released. Is there something wrong with the cayenne coils why the keep getting upgraded.

The 948 602 104 21 has been out at least since February this year - that is when it shows up on my price list.

Is there something wrong with these coils why they are constantly being updated. I have the 09 version and have a tube on my car, sometimes getting hesitation on acceleration. Should I update my coils. I do not get any cel codes.

If you are not getting a CEL then you are likely okay for a while.

These coils are sensitive to extreme temperatures and the insulation and weathering will cause them ti crack and then you usu sally get misfires. They an be taken off one at a time and measured for resistance - when you one (or more that has cracks or much different resistance then they should be changed out.

How do you check resistance on them (the pins at the elecitric connector) and what would normal resistance be for them

1. Check all connectors for secure fastening and corrosion.

2. Look for cracks or carbon tracking (which indicates a crack and short).

With a multimeter...

3. Check spark plug connectors. Resistance: approx. 2 kΩ

4. Check ignition coil(s). Resistance between terminals 1 and 15 at 20 °C: 0.3 - 0.7 Ω

I also replaced my original .05 revision ('06CTTS) coils (2 occasional misfires) less than 2yrs ago with new .09 coils & plugs, granted I had the new .09 coils for 6 months but two new revisions (.20 and now .21) since then? Can't they seem to get them right or are they actually making them better?

I know Audi & VW (VAG) have had coil problems in the past but I they have went through 2 or 3 revisions with some models, not even close to this many.

I am curious as well if there is a problem and if the new numbering scheme are actually better coils

I can tell you the early coils for the first 2-3 model years cracked and shorted all the time - it was a big problem.

I have not heard much about them lately though.
