Just picked up a 2010 C4S with 13,000 miles which is new to me. I'm putting it away for the winter and will use my Battery Tender to maintain the battery. My question is whether I can use the cigarette lighter socket as the plug-in point without a problem. On my 996, I've used the cig. socket for years without any problem but I don't know if that will hold true with the 2010.  Suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I have a 10amp fused connector from the battery terminals. The female connector rests on the plastic shroud near the battery. When I connect it up to the charger I run the cable out near the wipers. This means I can close the trunk lid and lock the car. The reason I do it this way is that my 996 is parked in an open fronted car port and I like to keep it locked when not in use.

You can also use the lighter socket and still lock the car and arm the alarm.  If you feel along the bottom of the driver's door (almost below the review mirror), you will find a recess that allows the cable to be run past the door seals, allowing full closure of the door.

JFP - as always, your information is helpful and spot-on.

Was wondering if you could clear something up for me.  I can't remember where I read it, and what the rational was, but the article/blog post etc mentioned using the passenger footwell outlet rather than the cigarette lighter.  definitely not as convenient.  Could there be a valid reason for this?

Not all models have the passenger foot well outlet, but they all have lighter sockets.  I also do not know if all of the foot well sockets are "always hot", while the lighter sockets always are, specifically for the maintainer.  If the foot well socket is hot, there is not real reason why you couldn't use it.

Thanks! Good to know.
