Call out for access to Cardan Shaft Tool

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have to borrow, rent or sell (at reasonable price) the "Centering Tool" Part 9680  (MFG # 00072196800) ?

http://www.ecstuning.com/Porsche-2004-Cayenne-955-Turbo-Sport_Utility-V8_4.5L/Drivetrain/Tools/ES1355999/'

A bit steep $ for the tool, someone should have one out there to borrow?

FYI, tried the non tool centering procedure and now I'm getting a slight hum/vibration/roadnoise like sound now at speeds around 60mph and above..

Did not have this sound/vibration prior to change out of Cardan Shaft.  I did everything to the book (as far as I know)  New Flex Plate (Guibo), match the marks at rear end of shaft to marks on rear differential.

The only thing that I can think of is the centering of the Bearing Support to the Support Plate.  Its a bit witch craft without the "Centering Tool"

Anyone has one and could ship it too my ASAP would be greatly appreciated!  Also, any input on this is also appreciated

Thanks!

Any luck with the tool brother?

I just got a new shaft, installed it today, same thing as you, now it slightly hums/whirring noise from 30 mph on up… So, I put the old shaft back in with my "Temp Fix" and hum is gone.

Trying to work out if its the New Shaft is bad or if its the center bearing not centered true...

The New Shaft runs smooth and there is no vibration, just the humming/whirring sound… Annoying..

Unfortunately, this tool is both pricey and very specific.  Usually, you would only find one in a shop.  If you cannot find one selling used, check with shops in your area that work on these vehicles; they can probably do a quick shaft alignment for you at a reasonable price.

Just bought a Cayenne on Sunday and the cardan shaft failed on the way home. I bought the GKN part to replace it but now I find there is this centering tool needed to install it. Who would normally have one, just p car dealers?

Pretty much.  The tool is actually a VW item, but still rather rare.

Poo, my local shop doesn't have it. Still looking for a place that has one, I'm willing to pay for labor if done with the tool.
