car wont take gas

Hey guys,

New to the forum. I have a slight problem with my 01tt. It refuses to take more than .1 gallons of gas at once. I see that there is a tsb for the NA 996s for this problem but apparently the fuel tank is a bit different in turbos. Has anyone else had this issue and can shine some light on it? I have already tried the e6 fuse and testes the fuel vent valve as well. Thanks in advance.

I wish I had some good info for you, but my car has always been difficult to gas up.  Some pumps - like your car - I can barely get a gallon in before the pump cuts off.

I went to every gas station on my commute (not all at the same time :)) until I found a station and a pump that is least sensitive.  It has to be a specific pump though.  The others at that same gas station allow my car to fill to about 3/4, then cut off.

 

Good luck.  Hopefully someone can shed some light on what is going on.

There could be a couple of issues.  If you are a contributing member there is are several TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) that address this issue.  I always keep a 1 1/4 " grey plastic pvc nut (Lowes for under $2) to provide a space between the gas nozzle and the top of the gas throat.  Some service stations have relaxed emission controls and those pumps don't create a problem.  Let me know and I will send more info and photos!

I used to flip the nozzle upside down then on a lark, I tried the collar that Porsche sells for about 10 bucks.  997 201 944 00.  Worked well enough on the Turbo Cab that I immediately went back to the dealer and bought a second one for my GT3.  No more flipping and no more holding the handle.  Cheers!

Following up - I did this for the first time yesterday.

 

It did work, as in the car took all the 12.0x gallons it usually takes and the indicator went up to 4/4.

 

Now, if I could only get used to the fact that the reserve light seems to come on when there are still at least five gallons in the tank, I'd be set...

Maybe you need to get the tank/gauge recalibrated. It sounds like it may not be seeing the "remote" section of the tank. Edited by fpb111
