CV Joint boot is ripped, difficult to fix?

Recommended Posts

Today my car was supposed to get an alligment Job. But like always a new surprise. The guy in the garage told me no reason to do it now because i need both cv Boots replaced. Left and right side are ripped and grease coming out. I just had the lower Control Arms replaced and looks like mechanic didnt even check the Boots.

Replacement of the outer boots is a difficult Job?

Happy to read your experience.

Thank you

Not a difficult job, but it does require removing the axles and re-torqueing them after the boots are done, and not everyone has a torque wrench that goes high enough (if memory serves, the spec is around 360 ft. lb.)  You should be able to find both the boots and fresh CV grease as kits online.  When the boots are removed, the CV bearings should be cleaned and repacked with the special grease.
