911 Carerra 4S (991) or Turbo/Turbo S (997)?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - new member here.

I'm looking at rejoining the Porsche owners club. I had a Porsche from 2004 to 2008 and miss it dearly.

With my budget, I can do a nice 2012/2013 991 Cabriolet 4S or late model 997 Turbo/Turbo S Cabriolet.

Thoughts?

In my personal opinion the TT is just simply hard to beat and the Mezger engine is one of the best.  And the 997 is a pretty classic look -- much nicer looking than the 996, but cost a lot more too.  If you haven't already, I would drive them both ... I think you will find the TT to be more "raw" if that's what you're looking for.

I like the subtlety of the 997 Gen 1 4S. Whilst I go with everything about the TT engine I'm not a fan of fixed wings on the back and air scoops in the rear wings. I'm also not a massive fan of the LED side lamps although I do like the benefits of LED lights. I like a rear wing that appears when it's needed and disapears when it isn't. Just a personal view though that might not be shared by many. Also don't be put off by all the horror stories about 997 Gen 1 engine problems. Most are fine and with a careful inspection you can avoid getting a dog. And by all accounts the newer engines aren't without their problems.
