Okay... where is the approved oil list?

Recommended Posts

I have searched for:

approved oil list

approved oil

a40 oil

oil

TSB 1701

Motul

Mobil1

All I see is the generic viscosity chart. I am not seeing the approved oil list. What am I doing wrong?

It is also interesting to look at oil specifications.  There are some manufacturers' recommended oils, but not Porshe approved oils, which meet the P40 spec.  Comma make a fully synthetic Syner-G 5W-40 which has a spec that almost matches the Mobil spec in terms of viscosity index and viscosities at both 100 and 40 deg C.

Rather than focus on the approved list, you can also use credible independent rating systems such as ACEA A3, B3, B4.  Manufacturer published data often is culled to hold their product in its best light, but what you really want to know is how does the product hold up to high temperature/high shear environments, which is where the ACEA system comes in.
