How can I get power to my passenger side license plate light?

Recommended Posts

I hate to admit this. I wired up the reverse camera and forgot to wire the power to the plate light. It will be a pain to take it all loose in the hatch area. Those that have done this knows. Where can I tap in to get power for this light? The old plate light harness is still there and has a brown and white (maybe grey) wires coming from it. Can I just tap into that? If so which is power and ground because the camera plate light has a red and black wire. Thanks.

Been there.  Done that!  Just recently installed aftermarket Chinese back-up camera.  Just use the old light harness.  Don't remember which color is positive (I used a multimeter with the lights on to check).  Since camera cable is small gage I just pushed it into the female harness with a toothpick and is tight enough.

I went on ebay and purchased the one for Porsche Cayennes that replace the license plate light.  You also need to purchase the FAKRA cable to go from RCA to the back of the PCM.  I did everything and hooked it up to a TV to see if it worked.  You do have to widen the holes on the camera a little to align with the holes on the truck.  Only thing now is I have to get the reverse camera activated.  Ugghhh!  The dealership wants $169.00 and it only takes like 10 - 15 minutes from what I hear.  I found a Porsche repair shop that says he can do it for like $75.00. As long as he knows what he is doing.... you know who I am going with.

 Armas,

Did you go to the dealership to get your reverse camera activated?  That is a good idea to push into the harness with a toothpick.  Lol!  I'll try that.  Thanks, a million!

Armas,

Another question.  Right before you plug the RCA cable to the PCM via the FAKRA cable, what did you do with the remaining red wire coming from the RCA end?

I used the aftermarket camera to replace the Porsche stock camera which stopped working. My installation was easier since I did not have to run cables all the way to the front and could just use the factory installation as per this tutorial:
