Hi guys,

My CTT 06 with servotronic rack starting leaking well more like gushing, I felt the steering go weird and knew straight away the fluid was leaking, I nursed it home just before the rack packed up without fluid.

Long story short the passenger side seal was pissing fluid out, and the depression set in almost immediately that another huge bill was coming my way after just spending $4000 on head Gasket and other maintenance tlc.

So as not to be defeated I check around for a seal kit locally and no body here in UAE would sell me one, only they want to recondition my rack or Porsche would sell me a new one for a lot of cash.

I contacted UK companies which didn't have stock and wanted £50 for the kit when available plus shipping another £25.

So because I'm impatient I decided to pull the seal out and go for a search locally my self.

It only a oil seal after all despite all the scare mongering about not being a DIY job.

Found the oil seal and oring at a little shop called Golden Seals in dubai. Bargain I bought two sets for $4.

Ofcourse the pensotin fluid is $50 for 2litres but still well chuffed I managed to overcome this nightmare cost effectively and without removing the rack at all.

Update after nearly a year..... Had some bad weather recently and a lot of muddy dirty roads and sand/grit about. I noticed the steering felt a tad tight then all was OK.

A few days later thought I best do some checking and I can see the rack end seal area is a bit moist. The seal is leaking a bit for sure. I reckon some water and dirt got inside and damaged the seal.

Lucky I bought a spare hydraulic seal and it should be an easy fix plus a couple hundred ml of fluid top up.

Will add that to the long list of must get on with.....

1. Steering seal

2. Top mount front strut bush both sides.

3. Top wishbone arm driver side

4. Send injectors for professional cleaning

5. Fix this darn "check tail light warning"

Ah to be a cayenne owner is a charm....

great!!! Thank you for sharing. Do you have such a service in UAE?

I found one garage who is going to charge 400dhs (about 85euro) to do it.

They use ultrasonic cleaner and flow testing which seems to be the common practice. I asked if I can do a before and after check so as to verify the results, they said yes, so I will make a short video and post here after complete.

Steering rack passenger side end Seal hydraulic seal and o-ring changed today couldn't really see why the seals installed last year would leak. I checked for wear and also tears and found nothing.

All OK so far.

Also changed front differential oil for redline heavy duty shock proof oil. We'll see if it quietens down the front differential bearing noise at 120kph.

Rear camera won't pop open now! It's never ending ..........

The front differential noise is better at 120kph but I notice it starts the noise at 125-130kph now, so it seems the fluid just shifted the resonance of the bearing noise to a different speed. Lol.

Well the fluid that come out was clean and no metal so I will just live with the noise, no biggie.

Hi lewisweller.

Just found this post as I'm having a Power steering leak in my 2006 CTT.  Haven't crawled under the car to find the source yet.

Had the same problem with the camera.  Bought this one from Aliexpress and had it shipped to Dubai.

Used this instructions to replace it:

No need for relay as this camera will work directly from the old camera source.  6.5 V.

I had to drill a hole in the hatch to get the cables from inside the hatch above the number plate to the original camera area.

could you please let me know how you manage to unclip that panel to get access to the wiring? Please

The panel is attached by plastic fasteners. Just put a flat screwdriver or pry bar between it and the hatch and pull gently.
I broke 2 of the fasteners in the process.
Like most Porsche plastic, they were brittle and ready to break apart.

Could you post the part #'s for the seal and o ring please?

No part numbers.

The NBR hydraulic seal size 8mm x 38mm and the NBR oring I dont remember the diameter but 2.6-3mm was the thickness I think.

For sure if you whip them out you can find a match at a nearby hydraulic/mechanical seal type shop.

Top tip don't go for a thicker 3-4mm oring by thinking it will be better, the end seal plug won't fit back inside properly and the circlip won't sit in the groove either. When you start the engine and move the steering the end seal plug will push out and ***** fluid out everywhere. Ask me how I know?

I'm looking for a seal like this and there seems to be three measurements to find the right one... shaft size (I assume this is 38mm), seal thickness (I assume this is 8mm), and bore size (ie: outer diameter, which isn't mentioned here). Any idea on the bore size measurement?

What is the diameter of the shaft and the outside bore that the seal is installed into? There are three dimensions for the seal...
