Yes I'm back with another problem. Ctt 06 with 4 zone climate control, 45 degrees in dubai and the AC starts to blow hot. Had new gas 1050 grams as per spec after the head gaskets were done 4 months ago, vac test showed no leaks then.

I had to keep turning it off and on to get it to kick back in which is suspiciously like the compressor clutch not kicking in.

So questions:

Possibilities of the cause of intermitted fault?

Can compressor be repaired if removed?

Will be swapping the relay later from the rear defogger (same part number 40a relay) to make sure it not that and yes a trip to the local shop for gas volume check and leak test.

Ruling out the control flaps as when I increase temp to 29 it is blowing super hot and all the control flaps and noises can be heard switching, and back to low setting gives hot air but much less roasting.

There are several sensors that can prevent the AC compressor from running; low pressure, high pressure, high temperature, dead compressor clutch.

First thing I would look at is by passing the system and try triggering the compressor using a safe voltage probe such as the Power Probe tool.  If the clutch engages and the system cools, the problem lies in the sensors, if it doesn't engage, you have a compressor issue.

Very few people field repair compressors anymore, cheaper and quick to replace it.

Thank you for the tips, will be doing the bypass power up check asap. I noticed in my receipts from previous owner it had a new compressor 4 years ago at a whopping cost from Porsche. Omg pls not again I'm so broke.....sniffle sniffle ......

Hi lewisweller.
I replaced my Compressor about 2 months ago. Bought the Denso unit from AutohausAZ, expansion valve and receiver-dryer for US$530 + AED 250 shipping to Dubai.

http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/95812601400

I had it replaced at Zdegree for AED 1000. Acording to them the system is all fine now.

Honestly I am only using the car early morning or evenings as during the middle of the day, the heat is unbearable. The AC cannot cope with 40°+, it blows cool air but it isn't cold enough to really cool the car. I have it set to Auto 19° but the blower keeps working at top speed since the system is unable to reach that temperature. Early morning or evening not a problem, blower will drop to low speed. Using my Toyota during the day.

This is so true, the black colour, leather interior roasting pot Cayenne AC can't cope with +40 degrees, it was 48 in early July in sharjah stuck in bumper to bumper traffic omg we gave up and drove home. I use my audi in the day time for work now. Well at least that tells me something that when the system runs cool ish it is pretty much at its full capacity for these temps. By September it should be able to cope with the temps here.

Thanks for the link and costs, I'm really hoping its the relay or a temp sensor lol.

Will keep this updated.

Went to check the relay, but was confused by what I saw as it didn't relate to the relay info I had found l. Maybe wrong year or I'm missing something?

Anyone know which relay is the AC and which relay is the rear defogger or is the same as the AC relay, just looking to do a simple swap to see if the problem persists.

Drove the car today 45 degree outside and the AC stayed on the whole time.

Anybody got any info on which relay is the AC pretty pls?

Weird today late afternoon I pressure washed the car and gave the intercoolers and radiators a good blast. The AC was much colder for 1 hour journey and waiting outside the shops for the wife. We'll see tomorrow in the midday heat if the AC just needed a clean out of the rads or just the evaporative cooling effect I provided with the pressure washer somewhat briefly!

The AC is still poor in my opinion it can't Co with + 40oC heat, it also will cut out the compressor sometimes and have to turn it off and on a few times to get the thing to kick back in cool.

Anybody have a cayenne with AC that stops cooling when ever it decides to??

Went to garage today, the gauges showed the low pressure side was too high and the high pressure side was about right. The technician said it is either the refrigerant is over charged or the compressor is weak and would need replacement. For the hell of it I said let's evacuate it and refill to spec 1050grams. He evacuated only 700grams the first time which was strange, he then refilled with 1050 and it went hot meaning something was wrong. He evacuated it again and took out 1400grams this time meaning the extra 350 grams was left from the first time. Now he refilled again to 1050 gram and the AC was Ok (low pressure side gauge still reads alittle too high) cooling ok but not winning any medals in the middle east.

I think the summary of this is unless something else is the fault, its the compressor which is worn and weak?

Welcome any advice or experience pls I'm by no means an AC expert, quite the opposite.

I would take that suggestion of weak AC compressor with a pinch of salt. I replaced mine in early July and did not notice much difference at the time.
However, now that the temperatures have dropped below 40°C my AC is coping fine.

I am not exactly convinced either with the diagnosis. The AC does blow quiet good if park underground or out of the sun below the magic 37oC I would say is manageable. But it still has this occasional temperamental issue when it will kick out the cooling and start blowing non cooled air (not hot air like the flap moved) with a bit of musty smell and it will do it if I idle for a while and then rev the engine or drive off. Have to off on the AC to get it to kick back in again.

I think overall the cayenne AC is alittle under powered for the middle east, heating is great mind lol.

Its winter now and I will just manage it for the next 6 months.

Agree on the AC being underpowered for these conditions.
For the musty smell, I bought a moisture absorber from ACE a couple of weeks ago and it's made a great difference. First of all, the air inside the car doesn't feel humid and heavy as before which contributed to the heat feeling. It feels as if the AC doesn't have to work so hard to lower the temp. It's got a nice fragrance and most importantly it's collecting moisture from inside the car. So far it's 1/4 full capacity (2 weeks). I just have to secure it with some velcro to stop it from tumbling while driving.
Give it a shot, I'm happy with the results.

BTW, the one from ACE is different brand. I just attached a sample image.

Thanks for the advice. I do feel the Cayenne AC even when cool does feel somewhat uncomfortable and know you mention humidity I think your right. Other cars ac like my audi or my dad ford Explora and every Nissan I've owned feel cool and dry, the Cayenne I always feel sticky.

Does anyone know what sensors and where they are located?  I think mine may be faulty, because I can open the window when it's hot out with my hand in front of a vent and start to feel it get really cold.  I roll the windows back up and then it goes back to blowing warm.   It's fully charged and previous owner left service records indicating that a new compressor was fitted.
