  1. I'd really like to put 981 seats in my 02 Boxster S. I am not looking for alternative solutions/opinions on this thread. I am looking to get to the root of how plausible this is. Please let me know if you have any knowledge that may help: 1. Will 981 seats bolt right into my 986? - Does anyone know if the seat bolt patterns are the same? 2. The 981 is slightly bigger than the 986. I am wondering if the width, or depth of the seat backs may have issue clearing the console or roll bar. Im hoping someone has done this or seen pictures to let me know what might be involved in making these fit. (modifying console, roll bar, seat back casings etc.) If anyone has any input at all on the logistics of doing a job like this, I'd appreciate it. With regards to the electrical, I do not need seat memory, and expect my Porsche customs shop can make the seat adjustments work. He was just not sure if anyone had successfully made these fit yet.
  2. I understand how they are intended to work, but mine no longer stay in place when i screw them back in. the holes are too big. I can handle drilling a hole. Im just wondering if anyone can confirm if theres anything near there id want to avoid. Thanks!
  3. My drivers floor mat is sliding forward and its because the hole for the circular velcro mount has become too big for the mount to stay in. I actually dont even know where the mount is anymore, but I have 2 on my passenger side. My question is: Can I drill straight down into my floor board where those mounts go? Is there anything under there that might cause me to die if I drill it? or is it just the metal floor? I am thinking I'll either try drilling one long screw through the center of a round velcro post I obtain, or I will drill 4 shorter ones (1 inch maybe) through 2 big squares of velcro I have. Please let me know what you know. Thanks!
  4. Thanks Mike Focke- I am either going to make one or buy that one once I decide I like the new layout. If anyone can get back to me about the questions above, I will forever be grateful. Well, at least until the end of the week..
  5. Thanks! The photo is where I want the HVAC to be. My HVAC is currently exactly where yours is. I am ultimately going to remove the entire lower console to make room for my leg. I realize I will need to buy: 2 HVAC T-shaped plastic brackets (http://www.ebay.com/itm/282058603005?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) 1 HVAC trim piece (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-996-Boxster-Heater-A-C-Climate-Control-Trim-Bezel-99655267700-/291864178957?hash=item43f475f10d:g:Ai0AAOSwi0RXyzSp&vxp=mtr) Are there additional brackets besides the 2 plastic T-shaped slider brackets (And trim frame) that I will need to buy? Also, what about moving the electrical cables from down below to up top? Are there any complications here (such as moving the wires around the flat metal plate)? I have yet to take anything apart. Finally, does anyone know of a DIY outlining the steps to removing the lower console and/or any other parts to make this switch? (I may not immediately remove the console) I assume this process has been outlined somewhere. I just cannot locate it on here. Thanks again!
  6. I'm sorry, I'm new to this forum. Can you recommend search terms or a specific sub-forum? I could not find a diy or similar searching HVAC- I found a lot of HVAC related things that werent what I was looking for. Thanks!
  7. I am planning to move the hvac controls from the lower console in my 02 S and place them in the upper spot above the radio. Can someone help me find what parts I will need to buy to make this switch? If there is a DIY that would be helpful too. Thanks!
  8. That could be very likely. The car has 90k, is on its second clutch from 60k, and its original flywheel. I actually have a warranty on the car (good for another 8 months- previous owner bought from carmax). I wonder if the flywheel would be covered under warranty... The clutch definitely wouldnt. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips for identifying a bad flywheel? Any other input on the flywheel idea? Recommended reading etc?
  9. Thanks guys, The 3rd mechanic is now stumped. He is suggesting to my warranty company that we replace both axles (as one does have some play). Mechanic 1 said that it was the rear track arms. Mechanic 2 said the track arms are fine and did all 3 motor/tranny mounts. Mechanic 3 is saying axles MIGHT be it, but is really stumped. It also seems to be most obvious if you just "dump" the clutch at lower rpms, by releasing the clutch and not getting right on the gas. What I am describing is not as abusive as it sounds, and its totally cool on my other boxster and my gti. The clutch is pretty responsive (especially compared to other boxsters, but I do wonder if it could have something to do with how well it meshes. My last 03 S, when I put a new clutch in and resurfaced the flywheel (I know youre not supposed to/cant but we did), when I'd slowly back out of my spot, I could hear/feel it wasnt perfect. Im not saying these are the same at all, but it makes me wonder if you guys have any experience with a not so perfect clutch situation causing other issues. (For example, I know what a broken throwout bearing feels like- and thats a good example of a broken item in the cutch that allows the car to work, but shows other symptoms.)
  10. I have a similar problem, but it appears the top fabric directly below the back window being separated from the top (needs to be reglued) is the main contributing factor. Curiously, can you tell me if your fabric is in tact below the back window? You may need to look closely to see if it has pulled away a quarter inch or so. The seam should line up with the edge of the rear of the top. Thanks!
  11. Hi All, I have a 2002 Boxster S with 91k on it. I just purchased it within the last 8 months and I've slowly been trying to tackle all the issues. It is the 3rd one that I have owned, and I actually have a 4th one right now too (its an 03 base). The problem I am having is that there is a clunking after I shift at low rpms (3000 range). It is a very obvious clunk and it is very unsettling. I had the motor mounts and transmission mounts replaced (3 total mounts), but the problem is still there. It is also particularly noticeable when I shift at 2500 or so and dont get right on the gas. Giving it gas minimizes the clunk. I thought for sure this is motor/transmission mounts, and so did the mechanic. But now the problem still persists. I just drove the 2003 base and there isnt even the slightest hint of an issue like this. The car with the problem has 91k (02 S). The 03 base has 110k. Any thoughts on what this could be, or what my next steps should be? Many Thanks!
  12. Thanks, but that didnt seem to help me find what im looking for. Im looking for instructions to remove that panel, or a name of that panel. Thanks everyone!
  13. I totally have a bentley manual, I just dont want to use it. Can anyone tell me how to open up the panel that covers where the seatbelt is mounted?
  14. Hi, I am looking to swap out the functional oem seatblet from a 2003 boster base this weekend, and install it into a 2002 boxster s this weekend. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a diy on this process, or at least instructions on how to access the belt/remove the rear panel? Thanks! (attached pic is for an 05 buy a good visual)
