  1. Driver has more to do with variability than the car. Car and Driver magazine is usually pretty accurate since they use the same people to test cars, see if you can find what data they have on newer 911's. Because if one guy out there were to get a 4.5 sec 0-60 from an S4 im sure everyone you asked would say their S4 does 0-60 in 4.5 when in reality it doesn't. Temperature, tires, road surface, and driver are hardly ever the same so dont worry about 0-60 times and just worry about enjoying the car. Can you tell the difference between 4.9 and 5.1?
  2. Yes, I know. I've read it. Many times. The only thing I could see reprogramming via a PST2 would solve would be the cruise control issue. That doesn't solve the failure to indicate a fuel sender nor tell me the air temperature questions. Everyone else's cluster at least shows a reading for the fuel gauge, regardless if its accurate or not.
  3. Its from a 2004 996, thats all I know. And I read the write up but didnt see any programming procedure. I've disconnected the battery several times, but to no avail. Also I forgot to add but my cruise control no longer works. How do I fix that?
  4. I purchased a 996 instrument cluster and am having a couple unusual problems. The cluster I bought is Part number 996.641.213.00 70c and I put it in my 01 986 S. The problems are that I get a "fuel sender failure, take to workshop" message, and the gas gauge will blink red and will stay on the empty and not move. The other problem is that there is an "outside temperature sensor failure" message. That is to be expected since my car doesn't have an outside temperature sensor. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix the gas gauge? Also, can I use any thermometer to connect to the cluster? I would rather not pay the 20 bucks plus shipping for the stock piece, and if I can use any thermometer I was thinking about relocating it to my air intake to monitor my intake temperatures. If I can use any thermometer, do I just ground one wire and connect the other to what pin location on the cluster? Thanks for the help.
  5. I actually torqued one bolt off, so yes, they do break. The gap at the top is the only caveat to these lights in my opinion.
  6. I agree, go for the TT, you only live once. The difference with a turbo set up is its easier to get more power than NA... relatively. Then there is always the other approach... a GT3. If you want straight line, go TT, if you want a road racer, go GT3. It is faster around a track than the TT even with less power.... well, depends on the track really :P
  7. No room. Plus we have Porsche 911's with 450 HP direct from the factory. The new GT2 will even have 530. So why go down in power for 50 pounds less in weight :P Not to mention the aftermarket that can turn a 911 turbo into a 500,600,700+ HP machine. While a vette engine is a good option for those cars, its no option for a 986,987,996,997. Best case scenario for a 911 is basically a 3.8 X51 or GT3 engine. A turbo engine would require way more work.
  8. Agreed, very loud. But when your driving above 4 grand it really does sound awesome. Do you have headers? When I added headers to mine the sound went from ok to great. It really cleans up the tones.
  9. There is no way to put an airbag in there. I have the carbon fiber GT3 seats (check my registry page for pics) and it is a shell with thin foam. You do not want to mess with those seats for safety purposes. All you will be able to hook up electronicly is the seat belt wires. Thats it, 2 Wires.
  10. What? you mean the recaro GT3 seats? Or like reclining seats from a GT2? If its the GT3 seats there is no way to put an airbag in them.

  12. i honestly dont know which is which. You other option is a hardwired switch for valves only, that takes the sport option out of the picture completely.
  13. They are vacuum operated valves so that wont work, super easy option. Its called an inline switch. you just need to find the power wire to the relay or whatever that controls the valves. when the switch is on it will let everything be fine, but if its off (incomplete circuit) it wont do anything. Just have the installer set it up from where he powers the exhaust.
  14. Just a little update, I passed my inspection for the year with the headers on.
  15. Well, dont know about the extra power, there probably is some but I cant tell, only way to find out is a dyno. But the sound alone is worth it.
  16. Like I said, I havent even gotten to 60 yet. I think it might have added power, but I will let you know more this weekend, im taking a trip down to springfield so I will be able to stretch my legs out a little...
  17. Expect 10. Expect nicer sound, not so much louder... Its much more... snarly...
  18. Ive installed them, they fit just fine. They are the same ones everyone else sells. It makes the car a little throatier. Its a slight but good difference. When I open my bypass valves it sounds so much better though. Like a straight up whoosh growl instead of the undefined loudness before. So if I were to get a muffler itd sound awesome. My opinion is mufflers make the stock system louder, headers give the exhaust system tone/refinement. Both and youve got it going on, lol. I will get a muffler, i just wanted to start at the core (intake first, headers, then muffler is next). I am still hunting down a very slight leak, but Im not sure if its the headers yet. Im going to get a cover plate for my bypass valves and see if that fixes it. Im thinking the increase in velocity is making the leak louder to a noticeable level, where its the same as before but you couldnt hear it. If thats not it I will replace the gaskets and take the headers off to pressure test them. I will let ya know.
  19. No doubt if you replace your shocks and springs now you will have an improvement. I cant say how much though. Its up to you if its worth the money.
  20. Try the cayman tips, they look nice and share the same muffler I think.
  21. You want OEM or replicas? Oem will cost you 1600 a seat, replicas will cost you under 1600 for a pair. Check out my registry page to see my carbon fiber replicas. They are about as good as OEM.
