  1. Dectane / Depo come with air vents - they have plastic plugs inside for shipping which should be removed on installation - you can transfer the rubber hoses from OEM to Depo if required. The vents are there to dry out condensation rather than prevent it. If you want to use the OEM rubber you will need to warm it up to stretch it to fit, The rubber right angle serves as an indirect vent to prevent moisture running in, but as you drive the car air rushes in and clears it anyway. It depends upon your climate whether you feel these are necessary I suppose, or whether you just leave the clear plugs in place.
  2. Recently noticed during initial warm-up: After the engine fast-idle has come down to normal, and the transmission has moved from it's first gear warm-up into the second gear default, I've noticed that there is a "clicking" noise that starts at 12 mph and goes until 18 mph. This noise is coming (it seems) from under the center console area, and it only occurs when the vehicle is "cold" from initial start-up. Once the car is warm, this noise is never heard again. The noise does not get louder as the vehicle speed increases, but the clicking tempo does increase as the speed builds. It's only between 12 and 18 mph that I notice this and there are no abnormal vibrations, lights, or other indications noted. There is no stumbling from the engine or driveline. Again, this is happening when the system is cold, but the trasmission has moved into it's default second gear launch mode.
  3. I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo, and the exact same anomaly has befallen me. It only occurs at initial start-up, in the fall and winter months. But, after the vehicle is warm (temps up to normal), subsequent start-ups are normal.
  4. Loren, I'm in the same boat as an earlier contributer. I recently contributed to this wonderful website, but can't access the TSB's. :renntech:
  5. Loren, thanks so much for the information, very helpful. I'll nurse the vehicle home and look forward to getting it back in good health after it's dealer visit. :)
  6. I recently purchased a 2004 CTT from a local dealer and immediately noticed a fault that when driving at highway speeds and giving moderate throttle as if to pass someone, there is shuddering and hesitation. After researching this, I came to find that the most likely culprit is the ignition coils. Again, this only happened at moderate throttle and at other times the vehicle is a dream to drive. I notified the dealer, who will take the car and repair under warranty next week. Subsequently, I took a trip to my parents (185 miles one-way) and the vehicle drove perfectly. Now, the vehicle has mad hesitation/misfire at startup and has popped a CEL! It drives ok (it'll maintain 65 mph) and I'm 185 miles from home, the nearest Porsche dealer is at least 65 miles away in the next city, it's Saturday, and I'm due back in DC tomorrow! Can I limp this car back home (it's all highway)? This is my second Porsche and I absolutely love it, but I'm afraid of causing further damage or, at worst, being stranded if the computers decide to shut the vehicle down while driving. It's scheduled appointment is Tuesday and once home (if I can safely drive it), it won't be driven until it goes to the dealer. Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :o
  7. I have a '99 with 92K on it and I was wondering if anyone out there has any idea how long the shocks/struts last on these cars? I'm thinking of going the 030 route when the time comes to replace them. At the moment I'm starting to feel a little sponginess when transitioning lanes on a cambered freeway. Could this mean that the suspension bushings are giving up the ghost as the car still corners and takes bumps as good as ever. Thanx in advance for any advice. :help:
  8. Recently, my rear trunk release lever ceased operation. The lever, when pulled upon in normal fashion, is very loose, as if the cable has come off some how. Checking the cable in the trunk reveals a normal, taut cable to the actual release mechanism. Could it be that the cable has come off at the lever or do I have a more substantial problem elsewhere. Thanx in advance for any help.
  9. Go to Sears and purchase a 1/4 drive speedhandle. I did this with fantastic results. In order to get proper leverage, you may have to put one foot inside the trunk! Yes, it's true, but it worked. Ensure even pressure as you're turning the 'handle and the bolts will come out with no head damage.
