  1. I tried my iPod in my 09 Turbo; first try mauled the plugs on the cable but got a new cable, worked fine. BUT, I left it plugged in, no longer recognized (not charging?). The iPod is now plugged into a USB port on my laptop, but cannot turn on the iPod, it's just dead. (This is a brand new, Gen 6 iPod.) So far, I don't know what's going on????
  2. mine shows 1.10 but my guess there is later version of DVDs that are in parts catalog. ask your dealer That's strange, when I go to settings I see my PCM version in as a letter not a number I just tried my ipod this evening for the first time in my new 09 TT, don't know version number, and while it shows the ipod, library and shows that its playing, I get no sound. The cable doesn't seem to plug in very well and is easily pulled out (so had problems maintaining connectivity). I think I have either a cable problem or query whether generation 6 ipods are not compatible. I am going to check the TSB's after posting this.
  3. For my 4 y/o daughter, I carried some seats out to the car from Babies R Us and ended up with the black leather Eddie Bauer - I wanted a seat with its own harness at that point. Fits better than most in the rear. (I pulled the leather pad off the bottom of seat - it's just velcro'd - to make a little more room. I recently ordered a Britac Star Riser (I think this is the discontinued model), which uses the normal seat belt, and I installed it behind the drivers seat last weekend. It fits GREAT and, much to my amazement, I was able to drive with my 4 y/o behind me, by moving the seat forward only slightly from my normal almost all the way back driving position. Worked out great as my wife's Cayenne S blew a power steering hose, and we managed to get the four of us (including my 1 y/o son) in the car. A true family car!!
  4. One thing to consider is the possibility that a non-OEM shifter might be used to deny warranty service - maybe unlikely, but I don't think you can completely dismiss that. With the 996, the OEM shifter was expensive ($500+), versus $200 or so for the B&M shifter. But I just put an OEM short shifter on my 997S; they can be bought from Brandywine Porsche (usually they have it on ebay) for $329. It also comes with the housing and a plastic tool that holds the cables, so I think it is easier to install than B&M. My theory is that, for a hundred bucks, I would rather play it safe with OEM (even though I doubt there is any real functional difference).
  5. jnx - I would say the PSE on my 997S is very similar to 996 PSE (which I had), but maybe even better! Deep, growly, rumbly sound, pretty loud, but manageable when needed. Otherwise hard to describe, but for me I am absolutely grinning from ear to ear with it!!! If you heard 996 PSE and liked it, then just get the PSE, its even better!
  6. I have a "buzz" in similar circumstances - actually was hard to pinpoint because the sound echoed off the dash. Turns out it was the lens on the overhead light, which would vibrate under the right circumstances.
  7. Installed PSE today - ON all the time! The kit did not include a control module and obviously its all controlled by the DME now, so it seems very unlikely there is any shortcut hack to solve the 30-50mph cutoff problem. I had Fabspeed mufflers on for a week - not my style - but I absolutely love the PSE!
  8. Sounds like you found the electronics already, but if not, Carnewal sells only the electronics for E180. Unfortunately, I gave my 996 electronics away a few months ago to a fellow rennlister.
  9. Don't think its possible to convert. Take a look at the "Mufflers Exposed" page on the fabspeed website, which shows cut open 996 stock mufflers. I have a set of almost new 996 stock mufflers for sale cheap if you're interested. (If I'm not allowed to say that here, please forgive me and delete!).
  10. Thanks, DD694. I understand your points, but with the full install (electronics and vacuum), when you want PSE on, it still goes off between roughly 30-50mph or 50-80kph. With the 996, you can disable this by cutting a capacitor in the control module (which cuts off the speed signal to the control module) (see great writeup on this site). Because the 997 PSE is wired to the sport chrono system, I'm not sure it works the same as 996.
  11. I know there are instructions somewhere on renntech for the hack that alters the control module for the 996 Porsche Sport Exhaust to disable the cutoff between roughly 50-80 km (for Euro noise standards, makes the PSE quiet between these speeds). Has anyone done this to a 997? Doubt its the same setup as 996 since the 997 is wired into the sport chrono option (which I have). I'm installing it tomorrow and probably won't do the electronics part of the install (for now), but may do it at some point - but would not want that cutoff operational if I do.
  12. I'm no expert on this and did not even get the SIM tray in my launch 997S, but I do know at least one guy on rennlist has the factory installed kit and its working!
  13. Just ordered a Valentine 1 and the remote display, but after ordering it I am guessing that the typical mounting position for the remote display in a 996 (above steering wheel) probably won't work as well in a 997 since it will block the displays. Anyone do a V1 install in a 997 yet?
  14. Picked up a new Porsche OEM short shifter today on ebay, sold by Braman Motorsports (a Porsche dealer in West Palm Beach), for $300. It comes with the housing, unlike the B&M, and for this little extra I thought it was worth sticking with OEM and that the housing may make for an easier install (not that the B&M install seems difficult). Pic below. Braman says they will continue to list on ebay and might give better deals than their normal $350 price if you asked. [Javier in parts, 561-615-4877; no affiliation with them] I have searched here and rennlist (though probably not thoroughly enough) and haven't found any DIY instructions specific to the Porsche SSK with the housing. Does anyone know where I can find them? I also saw a recent thread that said there is a special Porsche tool to check the shifter adjustments (the poster had to replace his B&M shifter with the factory before the dealer would check his transmission) - wondering whether this means its better to spend $100 or so to have the dealer install it correctly?
