  1. Forgot to mention my local Porsche dealer quoted me $1500+tax ( no flyweel ) for the clutch and they ONLY will replace the RMS if they FIND any leakage at additional cost. 2 yrs unlimited mileage from the Porsche dealer. 6 months with the specialty shop.
  2. I need a new clutch. Found this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SACHS-02-04...sspagenameZWDVW For my 02 996 C4 Cab. The other issue is that no mechanic around here will do the work in less than 8 hours. From what i've heard, the job should be done in 4-5 hours. One mechanic will let me bring in the kit myself, however he will charge me $10/hr additional. Regular rates $78/hr - so $88/hr with my kit. The quote I have is $1250+tax ( if they source the kit ) for the clutch kit install and RMS replacement. Feedback? Thanks -
  3. Looks like i activated the immobilizer and I can't get it reset properly....ughghghhg
  4. I just put my hard top on, and now i'm locked out. Key won't turn in ignition. Any help is appreciated !
  5. Now that I will be getting a new clutch ( at 41k miles ), I have read it is wise to get the RMS work done at the same time. Now, I have been very lucky to not *yet* seen any leakage or issue with the RMS on my 996 02 C4 cab. I'm almost afraid to mess with it - unless the RMS is a "newer" one or something is improved, or just worth it to have done at this point in the cars life. comments appreciated dba
  6. Thanks for the quick response. Its probably time for that new clutch. I was worried because the other week it snowed lightly - and I took her to work. I turned the corner in a residentail area, and slid over the median - taking the front drivers side wheel over the curb with a big bump. Not sure if it was related to that either. Stupid me, i left the SUV at home....
  7. I'm opening a new thread on this issue with my 02 996 C4 cab, standard trans, 41k miles. I am not sure how to properly diagnose or get an idea of what is happening with my 996.... When I apply gas evenly and not aggressively, and shift, the car seems to do fine. Just like normal. When I give her some gas and drive more aggressively, the car seems to "lose" its gear and just RPM. I take my foot off the gas and she "finds" the gear again. This is predominantely happening in 3rd, 4th, 5th gear around 4k rpm or so. Could need a clutch at 40k miles? Doesn't seem related to the clutch. Almost like a fuel line or feed issue. I am not very technical and just learning these things. any ideas, suggestions are most appreciated. thanks, dba
  8. I don't know, maybe its a coincidence and my clutch needs to be replaced at 40k miles. I have no clue and not very technical about these matters. dba
  9. I'm having some odd things happening with my 02 C4 996 cab. Yesterday, my 996 was parked at work ( outside uncovered ). Here in Utah we got about 6 inches of snow over the morning and early afternoon - so the car was covered. When I drove home at around 5pm, the car was not holding particularly 3rd gear ( standard trans ) very well. Would just rev and not feel the torque. The same was true this morning. I don't know if it is possible that the snow accumulation and melting into the engine area could cause anything? Its just odd - can't figure it out. Car has 41k miles. Had its 30k svc and just had Porsche 150 pt inspection at 40k. thanks, dba
  10. I have an 02 996 C4 Cab ( with hard top ) and I also have a Honda Ridgeline truck for the snow/bad weather. Looked at Boxsters but definitely very happy I went with the 911. I'm even more grateful I can afford to have both cars. My vote: 911.
  11. Congrats on your purchase. I too bought a 996. I took the leap, bought a 2002 996 C4 Cab from an out of state dealer. Did the Porsche used 100+ inspection and it came back clean except for some regular wear/tear. I had to drop for new brakes and new tires. Other than that I am also extremely pleased and will post pictures in the near future. I had a Pioneer AVIC Z1 installed and i'm waiting for the trim piece to come in, since the climate control was moved to the low position. I also had the cd holder with the Becker 220. My pioneer has the ipod adapter, BT and XM traffic, and a rear camera. **** the car is fun as hell - as an ex AMG owner, this car surprises me every day I take it out. Happy Holidays dba
  12. I need to get some all season tires for my 02 Carrera 4 cab. I live in the snow, so I need something to get me around town etc. I've been looking on TireRack.com - at some Perelli's. any suggestions? TIA dba
