  1. To NC TRACKRAT and WVICARY, Thank you for your advice and counsel. learned a lot from your posts and recommedations. The 993 passed the PPI. I bought it and love it. I'll post a picture later. One question... compared to my 996, this car has a surprisingly large turning radius. Is this normal? The car has PSS9s and larger than stock tires (w/offset wheels). Not sure this could make a difference. Haven't heard any rubbing or other unusual noises when making a tight turn. Thanks!
  2. I was just looking at DAS rollbars for 964 and 993 at vivid racing's web site - www.vividracing.com. Click on "interior" on left side menu, then look for roll bar/cage and enter the appropriate information under vehicle selector. Looks like one model available for a 993 w/ sunroof. This was highly recommended by the previous owner of the 993 I just bought.
  3. NC... thanks for the info. I'll ask about the key and the SAI. I've learned an amazing amount about the 993 today - more than I know about the 996 I've owned for 3 years. This whole arena of carbon build up and the metallurgy of valve guides is beyond my technical comprehension. I certainly agree that simpler is better... I miss the '69 Camaro I had in HS... I could actually work on it. I'm working on convincing my wife about this purchase. If I fail in that endevour, I'll send you the contact info. It's a beautiful car. Thanks again for your assistance.
  4. Thanks for the information and the additional resources. The car has had the wiring harness change. Not sure about the distributor housing. I'll ask. I'd love to buy a later one, but they've gotten so expensive (except very high mileage examples). Thanks again.

  6. If you pass on it, can I have the contact info.? Seriously, the '95 is considered to be the BEST year by many. Sure, it's not the widebody and yes, it's down a few hp because of no VARIORAM but it's pure Porsche. No OBDII, just OBD I, and hopefully, it's too early and may not have the dreaded IMMOBILIZER. In addition, depending on the VIN, it may not have SAI (Secondary Air Injection). Just get a good PPI. If it passes, buy it and enjoy it! Thanks for the input. I was not aware that the 95 had OBD I (I thought they went to OBD II with the changeover from 964). I've heard that this is a good thing, but I've never known why. Forgive my ignorance... can you fill me in on the immobilizer and SAI? Trying to learn as much as possible.
  7. I am considering purchasing a 1995 993. Considering that Porsche usually makes improvements each year in a specific model run, I am concerned about owning the first year of the 993. I am looking for guidance as to what improvements I may be forgoing (or worse, which problems I may be inheriting) by purchasing a 1995 vs. a '96 or '97? This particular example is a C2 (50K miles) with manual transmission and bolt on modifications such as short shift kit, mufflers, ECU and PSS9. It's beautiful and appears to have been very well cared for. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  8. I have a 99 totally stock C2 cab which has been great for the last 4 years - now has 75K miles. Attended 3 DEs last year and got hooked. noticing the lack of cabs at these events and always loving the look of widebody coupes, I've become infatuated with the idea of buying an 996 C4S coupe. found what appears to be a very good, low mileage (25K) example at a very attractive price. If I pull the trigger on the deal, I'm sure I'll have buyer's remorse for a while (I usually do) but I always get over it. But, in this instance, I'm also concerned I'll miss the cab (already tried to talk my wife into both, no chance). Anyone have an opinion... should I forget the coupe and keep the cab? seriously, I'd appreciate any advice about the C4S as a track car. Seems the AWD is designed more for handling than wet/snow traction, but obviously has weight implications. Thoughts?
  9. I'm considering purchasing a 996 C4S coupe. Were there significant improvements from model year 2002 to 2004? Choices are narrowed to a 2002 with less than 20K miles vs. a 2004 with 35K. Appreciate any advice.
  10. OK... it appears that the bottom line is aftermarket headers, mufflers and intake changes produce little, if any HP improvement. And, any additional fun that would produce will be dashed when I attempt to sell and the snobs who want completely stock devalue the car because of modifications... you guys are a lot of fun!!! So, best move is to sell now and save my change for a while till I can afford a turbo!
  11. Brand new to this site... although I'm not trying to outrun a F250 diesel, I too would like more power for my totally stock 99C2 Cab. I've been looking at headers and exhaust as well as intake improvements. I've been surprised at the wide range of prices. For example, are the B&B design/material differences really worth that much compared to some of the other lower cost options? I haven't seen much written on realistic expectations from intake changes. Final question: someone in this string mentioned reliability trade-offs. I would not anticipate simple exhaust and intake changes to affect reliability... am I wrong?
