  1. Doing the 80K mile service and have run into a problem. The oil is changed, all filters refreshed, motor mounts replaced, brake fluid flushed, but plugs need to be replaced. Never pulled mufflers with PSE, and am at a loss on how to remove the stainless braided vacuum hoses that are crimped onto the valves. The heat shield (driver's side) is off, but without removing the muffler can only get to two of the three plugs. Hoping for help and thanks in advance. FWIW ... 2012 GTS. The subject of another post on center locks.
  2. Last set of tires bought and mounted at an indie shop, $72 for TPMS. Find another shop.
  3. My related is not putting the key in ALL the way. Key turns, no action. Seat it properly, no problem.
  4. Maybe way too late for comments, but... In shopping for mine last year, I did find a very few with LSD only, but most were without, or with Sport Suspension. A good option if you intend to track the car, otherwise, not needed, IMO. AWD needed if you're in the snowbelt, and intend to drive it through the winter. I was just out on a 1500 mi drive with some friends, one of whom drives a 997TT. After driving mine, he said he missed the dynamics of RWD. Liked the handling of the GTS much better. Finally, if you're considering PDK, Sport Chrono is a must.
  5. Hi Working with Adrian Streathers (noted author of books automobile, mostly Porsche) to provide him pics of the undercarriage of my '12 GTS. I need to get the car up, and underpanels off. Anyone have a 4-post lift I could use for a few hours? Thanks
  6. Hi Am about to put my 996GT3 up for sale, and am considering the 2011-2012 997GTS as its replacement. I am getting different information from dealers on the Sports Suspension (SS) and LSD options, and hoping someone here has good information. First, I was told the SS "option" is standard on the GTS. I think that's settled now, and is identified as a $950 option. But what is unclear is whether the LSD is included in the SS, or is a separate option. Whichever, can anyone give me a description of what the SS option consists? It continues to amaze me how uneducated some dealer sales folks are. (BTW, my other consideration is the 2007-2009 Turbo.) Thanks
  7. Hi May have to change my driving "style" and/or car shortly ,and am looking for advice on how to accommodate this. I have had limited movement in my right ankle for many years. I have been wearing a flexible brace since I had it partially fused in '08. I retained flexibility in it to press the gas pedal, so little impact to driving. However, as the ankle has deteriorated (as expected), I must now wear a stiffer brace that does impede my ability to press the gas pedal. If/when I have the ankle completely fused, I will lose that completely. The two things I am considering now are hand control for the accelerator, and/or getting a PDK-equipped car and left-foot drive. Anyone with experience in these? Source for converting to a hand control?
  8. Found what I need. Inspecting the nuts initially, I did not note that they had flat surfaces, looked round to me. Closer inspection shows that an 8 mm socket fits to loosen them.
  9. Long-time member over on the GT3 forum. Been driving a 996GT3 since Jan '05, and a 993TT just prior to that. As I approach 70, thinking of getting into a gentler/kinder car, and am considering a 997S with PDK. My question is are there any other issues with these early-on PDK's? I know I'm in for a BIG change from the rough and ready GT3, but am ready for that gentler/kinder car (I hope).
  10. I should have asked the right question, how does one remove the nuts on the installed crest?

    Hood Crest

How does one remove the hood crest? I have a silver one on there now, which I'll sell once removed, and want to put on the yellow one.
  12. Can't tell you if that particular part will fit or not, but when I needed to replace my front bumper, I did so with the RS bumper, which, at that time, was much cheaper than the stock piece. And it has air vents! :)

    Lsd

Suggest you go over to the GT3 forum on Rennlist where there have been several discussions on this, e.g., http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-gt2-gt3-forum/82454-qs-about-gt3-limited-slip-differential.html. If you search "testing lsd" and/or "lsd testing," you'll find several more.
  14. Not sure what function it has other than reporting the outside temp to the display. On my LHD '04, the sensor is mounted in a holder on the right hand side in the lower/larger air duct.
