Im working on a 996 TT 31K mi it has a bad crackling noise coming from the front of the motor seemed like idler pulleys or h2o pump But with the belt off it still has the noise.. do these motors have any known problems with the timing chains,guides tensioners etc ?

i have a 99 996 with cyl 1,2,3 all with bad misfires car barely runs I've replaced all the plugs and checked all the coils all seems ok in that dept. Now if I unplug the air mass meter putting into default it gets a little better making me think its unmetered air going to bank 1. do the 996 motors have problems with the manifolds like the boxsters? any other ideas? Thanks

It does smoke on r/hand corners ,seemed like oil being thrown onto header from leaking spark plug tubes but could be from the AOS. Thanks for your insite

Has anyone run across excessive crankcase vacuum in a 3.4L ? there is a real bad whistling noise caused by air being pulled past the what sounds like the rear main seal. if you pull the dip stick the noise goes away. you can hardly remove the oil filler cap with the engine running. ive seen plenty of oil seperators go bad causing all sorts of problems but never this one ant ideas?
