  1. A bad bearing in the alternator is possible , and yes it can still charge the battery assuming it doesnt have too much play and destroy the armature etc
  2. remove push rods from both transmissions, lift up the rubber seal left and right (clam shell seal) with a tape measure or rule measure from the top of the seam that was under the seal down to the ball joint located on the trans. it should be the same both sides, if not remove one cable from the motor and operate via the switch ( or you cam use a drill on the end of the cable to even them out, thats your basic setting. re-attach arms and put roof in full forward mode, check distance from front of roof to w/sheild top should be even left and right, if not there are two adjustable arms (via elongated serrated slots and 6mm locking bolts, tweek these to get desired measurement, any sign of laboring from motor stop and check!!!!!
