  1. Hello All, I recently performed the 4 stalk OBC hack on my 2000 996. After getting everything installed and put back together, I found that I'm able to move through the different OBC menus by pushing down on the 4th stalk....however, when I push up on the 4th stalk I am not taken back to the previous menu. Is this operating normally?...or am I missing something? Thanks- Rob P.
  2. Hi All, Recently the clutch helper spring on my 2000 996 started making a groaning/creaking noise when I press the clutch pedal. I know the spring isn't broken, so my question is: is there a way to lubricate the clutch helper spring assembly? I know that Porsche says that there's no need to grease it, but I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks- Rob
  3. Hi All, I had the air box out of my 2000 996 this weekend and when I went to put everything back together, I saw a plug that I don't remember unplugging...and I don't see what it would plug into. I put everything back together without plugging this into anything and the car seems to be running fine...and no dash lights are lit. The plug is wrapped in the same bundle/loom of wires that includes MAF sensor wire. Can anyone shed some light on what this is? Thanks in advance. -Rob P.
  4. Hi All, I noticed a coolant leak and have been able to trace it to a part for which I can't find a part number. My car is a 2000 996. It's the part circled in red in the attached picture. There is a hose that attaches to it....so it would seem that there is a "neck" that has broken off the circled piece. Any help identifying the part would be greatly appreciated. Oh, by the way...the yellow "U" shaped thing is just something that I shoved in there to stop the coolant from shooting up like a small fountain. Thanks-Rob P.
  5. Hi,What I mean by "firmness" is the amount of pressure needed to depress the clutch pedal. Thanks,Rpasitr
  6. Hi All, Does anyone know how high the car has to be jacked up to remove the transmission? Thanks- Rob P.
  7. Hi Loren,I'm aware that the clutch pedal will feel stiffer as the clutch wears...but after only 2500 miles?Thanks-Rob P.
  8. . , Yes....it's another clutch firmness thread. I currently have a 2000 996 and the clutch feels really stiff/firm compared to the 2002 Boxster that I sold. I checked the assist spring and it's not broken. I'm planning on flushing the brakes and clutch this weekend. The fly wheel, clutch pressure plate, disk and throw out bearing were replaced about 2500 miles ago (right before I bought the car). Any reason why the 996 clutch would feel much stiffer than the Boxster clutch? Thanks.
  9. Hi All, Is it OK to bleed the clutch without bleeding the brakes?....or should they all be done at the same time? Thanks-Rob P.
  10. Hi All, Lately I noticed that when I'm braking while driving over bumps, the ABS kicks in. Would this indicate bad shocks/struts? My thinking is that if my shocks/struts are bad, the tires may be losing contact with the road surface while driving over bumps and so the ABS engages. Any thoughts? Thanks rpastir
  11. Hi, No, I never got my hard drive back. Thanks- Rob P.
  12. Hello All, I just wanted to warn everyone about the user Porschelibrarian. In July, he agreed to help me build a PST2. He had me ship him my hard drive and pay him $100 via PayPal. He strung me out for about a month and a half, then stopped responding to any of my e-mails. It turns out that after 45 days, PayPal won't let you file problem payment claim....something tells me that Porschelibrarian knows about the 45 day period. So, I'm out 1 laptop hard drive, $100 and the cost to ship my hard drive to Porschelibrarian. Anyway, beware of any dealings with Porschelibrarian.
  13. Hi All, I've been researching how to build a PST2 from a laptop, but I haven't had much success. Would anyone be able to help/guide me in building one. I started the process back in July with someone else. I bought a used IBM laptop, sent my harddrive to him for programming...but now he's stopped responding to my e-mails. Any way someone could help a guy looking to build one of these? Thanks a lot, Rob P.
  14. Hi All, My 996 is leaking refrigerant, but I can't find the leak. When I add a can of refrigerant, the a/c will blow cold for about a month, then itstops blowing any cold air. I ran some dye through the system, but I wasn't able to see any of the dye anywhere I could reach with the light. Can anyone suggest a good a/c shop in the Lehigh Valley PA area? Thanks- Rob P.
