  1. Try RMG in Sunnyvale. Bob is a good guy. http://www.realmeangarage.com/
  2. typical ignition switch problem. I replaced 3 already. $30 bucks from eBay. I am thinking of changing the switch to the new style.. it will cost more than $200 i was told.
  3. Speakers are quite easy to be taken out and replaced. I replaced my NOKIA paper cones with Focus speakers. Probably your paper cones are starting to show their age. Two screws are used to hold those speakers in place. I will just take them out to find out what's going on. Or you local car stereo store can replace them.
  4. A ride? Those guys were chasing me when I was taking pictures.
  5. Six 997 turbo test cars were sighted in Foster City this afternoon around 3pm. I took a few photos using my camera phone. These are all have Georgia license plates with computers and wiring inside the cars. Looks like Porsche is testing the turbo before they roll them out to the market next year. All cars seems to be in production quality with little disguise. The turbo look a bit smaller than I thought but very nice looking. I definitely like these turbos over the 996 turbos. Nicely done. Beautiful cars.
  6. Porsche will give you one tranny for $6000 + labor. I got mine done for $6800 through local mechanics. Just add that to your cost. It's an easy job. You can find used tranny for less but no waranty and no guarantee of failing down the road.
  7. You need a new engine :) we are using 3.4 or 3.6 nowadays..
  8. Well, Stevens Creek fixed it for me. You guys were right about the windshield. It costs too much to fix the TSB 6420 so these guys just lub the noise area and it works. They also fixed the squeaky lef and right windows. For 4 hours and $520 of works. Comparing my experiences with Rector and Carlson, these guys are decent. Rector probably would take my whole IP off and charge me 2G. Dont worry about TSB unless you still have the warranty. It gonna cost you.
  9. Wow.. I replaced my windshield about 6 months ago. I just can't recall when did it start, but that may be the problem. The noise sounds like there are small parts hitting each other, like a loose screw or something. But I looked under it. Took the speaker out. Taped the A/C ducts. Open the door panels to find loose screws but nothing seems to be the problem. Windshield is a good hint. What is the part no. of the liquid? how can I do it? BTW, I looked at the TSBs. Still couldnt' figure out.
  10. I am trying to hunt down noise coming from inside of passenger side instrument panel. but really hesitate to take the whole thing out. should I do it? is it too complicated to take out the whole thing? dealer is not an option. had enough with them for these types of jobs.
  11. I had my tranny done about 2 months ago. No alternative as far as I know. Rector asked for $3000 just to look at it. According to my serveral encounters with them, avoid at all cost. Carlson, ditto, especially a guy called Betto. Since you are already at the dealer, Stevens Creek is probably the best bet. It costed me about $6800 in total (rebuilt tranny with warranty + labor + tax) at RMG in Mountain View. Bob is a decent guy. $7G is about all right (parts only or parts + labor?) There was a fresh tranny on eBay for $2000. Probably sold already.
  12. get the new car if I were you. major improvements in every aspect.
  13. this reminds me my experiences with my dealer (or dealers). they kept fixing the wrong parts and broke my AC until I fed up and went to a local shop. Bob just fixed it with a $100 part. I think it's a way that dealer plays with you when they try to get you back to pay more or they simply are not capable of find the problem. find a local porsche specialist and have them take a look at it. dont guess what's going on unless you really know about it. In Silicon Valley, you can try Bob @ RMG. but looks like you are in LA. maybe someone can recommend you one.
