  1. It seems that the MY05 997's had a mix of brake parts installed, I ended up pulling a pad from a front wheel this morning and lo and behold found that it had 996 pads and sensors, not the part numbers provided above (The caliper also has the 996 part number). The pad was marked with part number 996.352.940.03 (Textar 23329), took it to the local Porsche dealer parts department and they explained they always have trouble with identifying brake parts on the 2005 997's as they show both 996 and 997 pads in the parts catalog. If you have sensors that are pin shaped then you need the 996 pads 996.352.949.03 marked on the box (996.352.940.03 marked on the pad same as I took off the car). Other 2005 997's have the half moon shaped sensors and then use the 997 pads part number 997.351.939.03 pads. My sensors were still good so just bought the pads, really quick and easy install and back on the road. I ended up paying the Porsche premium for the pads, glad I didn't order online sight unseen or would have ended up with the wrong pads (or needing to also buy sensors and retaining hardware to make the 997 pads work?) My back brakes still have 4mm of thickness so didn't do these today but will be sure to pull a pad to verify part number before picking up parts in case the same issue arises. I'm surprised no one else with a 2005 997 has come across this issue, but I'd recommend you check part numbers first before getting replacement parts, especially if you have an early MY05 997 such as mine. Sounds like the Porsche factory was using up inventory during the switchover to 997 production. You can also save some money if you have the 996 pads as you can buy the Textar pads for 25% less than the same Textar pad in a Porsche box. If you have the 997 pads your only option is the Genuine Porsche part as you can't buy the Textar pad directly (as of yet)
  2. Not sure if this is a subtle mystery or blantantly obvious but I am now confused about the correct front pads for my 2005 997. I was thinking of using OE replacement (Textar/ Pagid) as I am planning to also do with the rear pads. But there doesn't seem to be any OE replacement part listings I can find online for the 997 C2 fronts (although lots of options for the 996?) I'm also considering Pagid Sport pads (I do a couple of a track days a year) and these list the same front pad part number for both 996 and 997. Are the 996 and 997 front pads interchangeable on the 997 and does this also impact what retaining spring to use? The Porsche OEM pads "clearly" show different part numbers for 996 and 997 pads. I'm in the Toronto (Canada) area and was planning on ordering parts online from the US or picking up parts next week when I'm in Vegas so I want to be 100% sure as returning parts if incorrect will not be practical. Getting OEM pads from the local dealer would be the safe bet but will be a significant cost premium over buying from the States.
