  1. Thanks for the write up. Did it today using these instructions. I took some pics that may help someone. It took me a while to get the key cylinder out. You have to get your "paperclip" back about 2 inches. Also when you remove the cylinder keep the paper clip in and do not remove it or you have to redo it when you put it back in. Picture with clip in out ring hole. I had a key witout the key head. You can probably do it with a normal key but the black head would get in the way a little. Remove entire cylinder, just by pulling out when released. Im not a big fan of leaving a bolt out as he does in step #10. It is really the only bolt in the housing. The pin does hold it as he describes but I still perfer to put everything back. You can actually get to the nut area from underneath the dash. Its a little hard to do if you by yourself but I stuck a socket wrench on the top of the bolt while I threaded the nut on lightly from below. Then you can the use the socket wrench from the top when the nut gets a little tight. He mentions in #2 of installing that replacing the ignition housing back in is the hardest part, but I think his part must have been a hair oversized or something. Mine clicked right in, literally took 2 seconds not 20 minutes. Its a pretty easy DIY (other than having to have quite a bit of patience working to get some of the bolts in and out in tight places) and these along with the vent removal instructions are really good.
  2. For the record you can use an existing M680 connection in a M490 amp. When I first removed the cable I had removed a wire from the pin. When I reseeded all wiring both amps worked perfect. It was interesing to hear with the DSP amp. If it had more power to drive the speakers I think it would have sounded really good. I hooked up the HPAS amp which I think is like 720 Amps. Sound was incredible. Much improved over the DSP system.

  4. I went to a stereo installer here in Dublin and he said I would need to get the part from a Porsche dealer, I went to the Porsche dealer and said Id be better off getting it from a stereo store. To me it looks like a pretty standard connector. Does anyone know where I can get the 18 pin connector that plugs into m490 and m680 amps? Ive asked around on a few forums now too and no one can provide an answer. I guess this isnt a common need but I would figure this should not be something difficult to get.
  5. Well I found the error of my ways. I should have done a little more research prior to installing :) Anyways I have DSP M680 and this will only work as M490. So I going to remove the DSP. I was assuming I just may have to switch a few leads on the amp cable but looking over the schematic Im not quite sure how to go about it. I guess one of the first things I need to figure out was if the +12 from the stereo is not installed in lieu of the DSP +12. Or is it just a matter of removing the DSP for this to work. Any help/advice? Heres the chart:
  6. Ground seems ok. I just reversed testlight where I hooked the one end to postive at the battery and then poked the ground wire near the amp and it lit up fine. How would I check the remote trigger?
  7. So I installed the Porshce high performance audio sytem this weekend. It was a little more work than expected. The one problem I am having is the amp does not appear to be working. The hpas amp has 4 indicator lights, one of these being power and it is not lit. Ive verified power is in the wires all the way to the amp. The fuse for radio options (d9) is ok. Any ideas where else I should look?
  8. Try 9271 or 9269 So far Ive gone from 9269 to 9273 and have not had any success. Should I just keep trying from 9260-9280? The lockout has been slowing me down.

  11. Ill assume you meant dash though having roof speakers may help with the sound :) Was there a reason you did not install the amp? I was hoping this would plug in without modifications. Also what was your impression between the dash speaker you removed and installed? Bigger magnet? Better cone? Crossover on both?
  12. Is there any info or DIY on how to install the Porsche High Performance Audio System? Or if anyone has installed this could they give some pointers. Im guess my biggest question is wondering how the door speakers get installed. Also is the amp a direct plug and play with the existing amp?
  13. hmm...so does that mean these rims would cause issues as well: http://www.pcars.com/porsche_parts/shop.ph...-lip/p_147.html Ive been looking at different options, but I had been told those would fit no problem, but they dont fit under the specs you posted.
