  1. Sorry for dragging an old post up, but how did it go replacing the seal? I have to do the same and am trying to arm myself with info for before I pull the shaft out. I have the new seals and am assuming i'll just grab the old seal and yank it out and then tap the new seal in place with a large socket to keep it true? Any pointers?
  2. I replaced my battery a few months back and finally had the time to hook up the durametric since I remember seeing the code under vehicle data. I put it in and it doesn't work. So, they wasted time to put the WRONG code into the DME? And of course I have PCM so it looks like I have to bring it to the dealer in order to get the code from it, correct? I wonder what they are going to charge for that? Or I can just drive around without the pathetic sounding radio or outdated NAV :) :) edit: Didnt realize I was in the boxster section. I have an '01 996TT
  3. I forgot to update this thread with the outcome of my problem, but it was the wiring harness that was causing my fault codes. I ordered the 'Repair Kit' showing in the PET diagram above and it is the ENTIRE HARNESS going from the battery box to the wheel with the connectors attached to the end. It comes with everything you need to attach it to your old harness. New crimp connectors, waterproof shrink casing and about 1-2 ft of extra length in case you need it. Went on super smoothly and havent had a fault in about 500 miles or so (I dont drive the car often). Very happy it was not the control unit as that is $$$!!!
  4. Ahh, i'll take a look at those tomorrow and see what they show. Anything to save me from the $350 harness that i'll have to tear apart! :) Thanks again!
  5. Well, i've taken the plug off numerous times and cleaned it, also pushing it on and off multiple times to clean anything that might be on it. This is over the past 2 years as this problem has been going on for a while. Then of course i've changed the sensor from right to left and the error continued. It is just getting worse and worse. When i got the car 3 years ago, i would get an error once every couple hundred miles. Now it seems that I get it within the first couple of miles of driving the car. Though i did take the car out a month ago after it had been in storage for the entire winter and it took almost 40 miles before it came on. Would you suggest I put some sort of electrical grease in there to make 100% certain the connection is good?
  6. Thanks for the help Loren. I went out and ran the tests and it all points to the harness being the culprit. Any idea what my next course of action is? Do either of the parts above seem to be ther correct ones? I know I could just buy the whole harness and then cannibalize it to get that part of the harness, but I feel that would be wasting money. Thank!
  7. The fault code is: 4200 Front right speed sensor -op. circ./GND/+ short Like i said, i've swapped the sensors from side to side and still have the same code. I have a Hitachi MAF and it checked out ok. I do not know about the brake light, but they do not seem to be related from what I understand from this fault code. At one time, I got an out of range code, though i do not know what the actual code is as it is no longer stored. How would you go about replacing the harness? The FSM says to cut it and splice is a new one, but it doesn't give a part number for the new one. What to Porsche Techs do? I'd like it to be insulated with the holders like the original one :)
  8. I'm having problems with my ABS/PASM light coming on and it says it is the right front sensor with a reading out of range. I switched the left front and right front sensors and am still getting the same fault code. My next course of action is going to be to replace the wiring going to to that sensor since i assume there is a break in the wires or a short becuase the car has PSS10's. Looking in the FSM, there is only part numbers for a 'repair kit' that costs about $100. There is also a wiring harness that looks like it goes to the front lights, ABS, and brake wear sensor that is about $350. They are page 414 of the parts catalog. I will try to attach a page. Has anyone tried to replace this? If so, what parts did you use? I traced the wiring from the right front and it goes through the firewall and I can't tell where it goes from there. The left front goes through the firewall as well. But the ABS Sensor is in the front trunk. If I got the entire harness, I can't see how I would remove that wiring since it goes into the dash area of the car (i've seen some posts where people remove the dash, i don't think i'd want to attempt that). Does anyone know the routing of the wires? Last, if it comes to having to replace the ABS computer, is it a simple unplug/plug or would there be much more involved? I'm not worried about having to bleed the system (though I can't hook it to the Porsche computer to cycle the ABS for me, i'd have to do it the old fashioned way). Any places to get this $$$ any cheaper? Thanks in advance!
  9. Instead of starting a new thread with the same exact answer, i'll bring this one up. Does anyone know this?? The only thing Fumoto could tell me about the plug was that it was a 22mm plug which Porsche generally uses in their cars, but he wasn't certain the oil TANK plug was 22 mm. Can anyone confirm the oil TANK plug as being 22mm?? Thanks, Dennis This is covered in the 996TT Oil Change DIY here Thanks Loren, is there any way to know the specs of the actual threads? I think that is what they need? The head of the drain is 19mm as per the DIY, but since I don't know much about the thread sizes, etc... do all 19mm bolts have the same thread on the other side of the head? Thanks for the help.

  11. Sorry to drag up a year old post, but I seem to be having similar leaks. Did you ever find the culprit of this leak? I'm about to take off the exhaust to see where it is coming from, but that is tomorrow! :)
  12. I too have the same symptoms on my 01 996TT. IT seems right at 1500 prm the car stumbles for a second. From reading around, it sounds like the variocam but I am not certain that is all it is. At one time, the car shook so violently that it seemed like it stalled, it was complete off and then on again. I am going to change the plugs and coils this winter and see if that helps since I don't believe my coils were changed, but I know the plugs were less than 10K ago.
  13. How did you tighten them? Bending or do they spin to tighten down? Im going to be taking the car on a trip down the east coast and would hate for it to pop off as im driving through the night!!
  14. As far as these just popping off, mine did while I was driving today and I was left stranded until a friend came doen with a floor jack and some zip ties. I was reading on this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...;hl=shift+cable that there is a spring clip that sounds like it can be replaced or adjusted. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to adjust it? Or at least what it looks like? I saw some silver 'arms' that wrap around the connectors, should i just bend them in to make them tighter? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
  15. So, from the above directions, it seems you can adust the height of the spray heads? I think mine is fluttering around at speed and making a racket. Any idea if I can just push down on it to seat it down further?
