  1. You could drop the top at night :) The rear window on my coupe has fairly dark tint and I don't think is a big problem at night. The dark black tinted plastic window may last longer too.
  2. Quick update. I got a quote from a different indy and they charge $1,500 to replace the clutch and only 6 hours of labor. He mentioned that it was a very long job for older 4's but that the 996 C4S is actually not that time consuming. So my car is getting a new clutch there next week.
  3. Trying not to duplicate threads so here's my question. I'm getting ready to do the clutch on my 03 C4S and my indy said that Porsche calls for 17.5 hours of labor (???) but that they usually do it in 10. The total cost including replacing the flywheel would be around $2,600. So I called the dealer and they quoted me $3,100 with the flywheel ($1,100 less without the flywheel) for parts and 7 hours of labor. The indy shop says it takes longer because it is AWD. I'm getting another quote from another shop tomorrow. How long should it take to change the darn clutch? And if I do it myself (have access to a lift), do I need any special tools? Thanks!
  4. Mine started doing exactly the same today :huh: The car (03 C4S) has 73k miles so I'm just going to get a new clutch kit installed (or I may try to do it myself). Any thougths? Should I be looking at something else? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  5. About 8 quarts but make sure you check your dipstick. I added 1/2-quart too much on my last oil change and had to remove the filter to get rid of the excess oil.
  6. Nice write-up and installation. My only concern would be heat build up in the headlight housing leading to ballast failure. Hopefully that won't happen to yours.
  7. South, I also have a 996 C4S. I have Michelin PS2's and love them but have heard good things about the Sumitomo HTRZ III. If money is a big factor, these are very inexpensive and wear nicely. EDIT: I just noticed that this was started over a year ago :oops:

  9. Well, that depends. If your battery is very weak, all the electronics may come on but if you try to start the car, the load may be too high for the battery and the car won't even crank. This is more pronounced when the temperature is low, since the battery has less usable power then. A weak battery may crank the engine slowly when the weather is warm and not at all when the weather is cold. Also, the volt meter may read a healthy 12 volts but that's under almost no load and doesn't give you an accurate battery condition reading. I've had the same experience with my S4 and it ended being just a very weak battery. Anyway, glad you figured it out!

  11. Are you sure they need to polished inside? Mine looked like the inside needed to be polished too, but after sanding and polishing the outside of the lenses, it was obvious that the problem was just the outer surface. It had tiny yellowed surface cracks that made it look like the inside was messed up.
  12. I wonder if you can remove them using something with a "charge" to attract the pieces. Could you remove a bulb and reach that area with a plastic rod that you have electrostatically charged by rubbing it with a rag? I'm guessing the plastic bits inside would cling to the rod the same way they are to the lens. I would definitely try something similar before trying to remove the lens. Or go to home depot and buy some vinyl tubing small enough to go through the bulb hole. Then use your shop vac at the other end of the vinyl tubing to try and suck the buggers out! Good luck!
  13. It definitely sounds like a battery issue. You can have the battery checked at a local parts store for free too. Have you looked at the post connections? They could be corroded and giving you all kinds of troubles.
