  1. Just realized this was for a 997-2. They switched to touch screen, etc, that year, right? So with that said, I can't speak with much intelligence around what is/isn't possible.
  2. So I retrofitted Nav and cd changer into my wife's 2008 997.1 C4S . This was in 2009 when the car was bought new and even still had the temporary paper plates on it. You should not need to replace the PCM. You just need a lot of parts, a lot of time, and the dealer to set coding in the car to say you now have Nav. Suncoast and @Loren were great resources to me at the time but I also had the electronic parts manual which told me pretty much everything I needed to know.
  3. I'm looking at possibly moving into a 987CS2 and was curious about the LSD option. Being as it's almost impossible to find one on the lot with the factory LSD, I was curious for opinions as to whether it's worth it to hunt down a 987CS2 with the factory option or is it better to go with aftermarket (quaife, etc)?
  4. Did you go to the dealer and have your system coded to accept the new Sat unit?
  5. To be more specific, the Pentosin I have on hand is "Pentosin Racing Brake Fluid". I know from research that it appears most Porsches take Pentosin 11S (which can be replaced or mixed with the higher 202), but I can't figure out how the "Racing Brake Fluid" fits into that equation...
  6. I'd like to top off my girlfriend's 997-1 C4S but I only have Pentosin, ATE Super Blue, and ATE Gold laying around (listed in order of heat rating). Are any of these ok to mix in with whatever is stock? Thanks!
  7. I recently finished retrofitting Nav, Sirius, and Cd Changer into a 997 C4S....although only the Sirius was sourced from a Cayenne. Most parts are interchangeable between models as long as the level of the system is maintained or upgraded (A->B->C, etc), the thing you'll need to keep in mind is that the Nav drive will need to be either horizontal or vertical depending on the target vehicle and that the Sat-Navigation DVD Drive unit will need to go last in the MOST chain. I actually have a new horizontal Sat-Navigation DVD Drive unit listed in the for sale section for cheap (I needed the vertical unit instead of the horizontal my "kit" came with).
  8. At the bottom of the PCM display, there is a row of buttons...I think it's like the 6th button and says "Info". When in SatRadio mode, if you depress this "Info" button you'll be given two options (I forget what the first is), the second of which is "RadioText", which, when selected, will display the song info.   9. I had the same question you did about the Cayenne Sirius system I retrofitted. It appears your XM works the same way...in that the song info only appears on the Info/RadioText screen. I verified on the Cayenne boards that this is how it works (i.e. they never see the song info scroll...the cluster and the PCM always just display the station name when on the "normal"/Main screen)

  11. So I just finished retro-fitting Sirius, Cd-Changer and Sat-Nav into my girlfriend's 2008 997-1 with no issues and after dealer coding, everything appears to be working great. Before the retrofit, the basic PCM setup was at Level C . It so happens that I had special ordered a new vertical Navigation-DVD unit for the retrofit. I performed no PCM updates , system, navigation or otherwise, and the Map disc I'm using is a 2006 disc. The reason I bring all this up is that my experience seems a bit counter to some of the notions expressed in this thread. I haven't checked the software-versions post retro-fit, but according to what I've learned from this thread and others, all components have to be at a matching "level" to talk to eachother, so knowing that pre-retro-fit that the car was at Level C, this would mean the Navigation drive would also have to be at Level C in order to properly talk to the existing system. Where things get contrary is that, also according to this thread, a Level-C system can't use a 2006 disc, but I, in fact, am. I may be over-simplifying so maybe I'm missing something?

I know the part number for the US unit is 997 618 227 01 "control unit garage door opener" with an additional info item of I607: "Garage door opener 'Homelink', 315 Mhz" I see another part number listed 997 618 225 02 "control unit garage door opener" with an additional info item of I608: "Garage door opener 'Homelink', 433 Mhz" Since I know the first part is for US, then my assumption would be that the second part (997 618 225 02) is RoW You should verify this, though, before ordering :)
  13. Just got back from getting everything coded at the local dealer and it looks like I was correct in my assumption that the MOST path should be PCM -> Amp -> Changer ->Sirius -> Sat-Navigation. My only question is why isn't the artist/song information displayed on the "Main" screen? (I have to go to Info->Radio Text to see the information). Anyone have any idea here?

My un-educated guess would put it between CD and NAVIGATION so PCM -> AMP -> CD Changer -> Navigation but I'd like some confirmation before I button the boot up.   15. Apologies for cross-posting between threads, but I need to complete my install tomorrow morning so I need answers semi-ASAP. I'm retrofitting Nav, Changer, and Sirius all at the same time and my last big question is where the Sirius unit fits in the MOST path. Without Sirius, the path is PCM -> Amp -> Changer ->Navigation so where in there would the Sirius unit fit? Thanks!

  17. All the TSBs we have here are as current as what Porsche gives dealers/OPCs. We get them at the same time they do. Sometimes it takes Porsche a few months to update them. Loren, my apologies, you are completely correct. I was confusing the (outdated) printed instructions that were included with my purchase with what was available here. Membership definitely has its benefits :renntech: :)
  18. Thanks Berty, and everyone else who has so far contributed to my endeavor. Also many thanks to PorscheLibrarian who got me updated information that I had so far been unable to find and updated TSBs that listed current/newer part numbers than what's in the Member TSB section. (As an aside, here, would it be possible to update the TSBs that are already in the member section to the current ones?) I am going to go ahead and pick up the Vertical 997 642 159 01 unit from Suncoast and I have now listed the horizontal one for sale here on RENNTECH: LINK . One final comment, from my VIN, I determined the chassis code is 998S732132 but I haven't been able to find any PETs that list a code in the description that starts with 998 (they're all either 996 or 997 so MY06 or MY07)...I'm going to assume this is because the three I'm looking at (Porsche.com, AutoAtlanta.com, and the actual PET program I received) are all outdated...Is this a correct assumption?
  19. Berty, there's a second diagram of components in the link that does list the vertical drive that you're missing. It's after the diagram and subsequent detail that shows only the horizontal drive. 911-01 on page 423 of the PDF as opposed to the 911-00 on page 419 you're looking at.
  20. First - I promise I'm not dense, I've searched for answers (even simple things like determining chassis number) and have come up fairly dry. Also please keep in mind that I don't have the car in my presence most of the time (I usually have to call in to the girlfriend to get information from her). I'm trying to determine the chassis number and from your description of the location, it sounds like you're talking about the VIN number? Are they one in the same? Does the Chassis Number have to be decoded out of the VIN? (I've used the decoder here but none of the outputs label themselves as such and being as I don't have a sample output of what a proper Chassis Number looks like, I'm not sure what I should be looking for.) Finally, when looking at the PET pages, where should I be looking for the Chassis Number (Again, I think if I had a valid Chassis Number to lookup, it would be fairly obvious, but I don't.) I'm guessing, though, that the Chassis Number should be matched to the additional values in the "Description" field (i.e. F>>996S7 43975)? The PET I'm looking at (https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/pdf/e...USA_KATALOG.pdf) only lists two possible vertical drive options (Illustration 911-01, Item 3) and neither of them (997 642 139 02 and 997 642 159 01) reasonably match the part numbers your listing so I'm rather confused... The Porsche retrofit instructions list 997 642 139 02 as the vertical part needed which does appear as one of the two numbers I listed above. Obviously being able to determine my Chassis Number would help me determine between these two, but now I need to understand where Berty's part numbers are coming from and how they compare to them... Thanks everyone for all your help thus far. It's really appreciated.
  21. I'm still fumbling through the different cross reference materials a bit, but I think you might be looking at a 997-2 PET listing? The reason I think this is that the PET listing I'm looking at from Porsche.com (for an 07 997, illustration 911-01, Update 203, from 08/28/2006...granted mine's an 08) lists different option codes than you have and indicates the first two part numbers are I099 (right-hand drive). The other interesting thing is that the next two part nunbers you list aren't in the PET available on the Porsche site at all, but they do show up in AutoAtlanta's PET diagrams (but with a price half what the first two part numbers list at which makes me think they might be the DVDs themselves and not the drives?).

Great advice :) I had actually searched the interwebs for 'for sale' C4(S)s with OEM changer and navigation in the hopes they'd have photos of the bonnet, and came up with this which matches the info I've been reading. In this picture you can clearly see the BOSE AMP hump + Attached Navigation DVD drive hump against the rear, and the CD Changer along the passenger-side fender. What I would LOVE to see though is the part number on the Navigation DVD drive...something I've yet to discern.
  24. Got a response back from Suncoast, and they state that the included 997-642-157-01 is correct for the C4(S) and will work vertically. So I guess I'll go with it :)
